Willow Springs Intl' Raceway Event

Hello thirdgeners. I found a neat club that is putting on a drive what you brought event at Willow Springs International Raceway! I'm signed up already, and wanted to give the rest of you an opportunity to at least know about it if you wanted to attend. Here's the skinny:

Who can come: Anyone with a street safe car (seat belts, non-bald tires etc)
What is it : Open track day with up to 20 cars racing on the track at once, not a race per se simply a drive for fun as fast as you like day
Wallet Impact : $130 per day, not including gas or repairs for broken parts
When : May 29 and May 30 (2 day event)

For more information, head on over to their site and look around. Most of your questions are answered in the FAQ or the info page for the event. Here's the site: http://www.speedtrialusa.com

Hope to see more than just my thirdgen out there next weekend!

Re: Willow Springs Intl' Raceway Event

Just snapped a brake line on my car. It's laid-up till the parts arrive.

P.S. – Earl's brake lines suck. Goodridge here I come.

I might go to watch.
Can't run the vert and not sure I want to put the GP in what could be a demolition derby.

Anyone thinking of going?

I wouldn't mind running up to spectate and see how they run things..ie personal and vehicle safety and what the risk and liabilties are. I would be up for doing this in the future so I would be game for running up and checking things out. I can drive this time if you want. Let me know, you got my number.

edit, I just remembered, I have plans next weekend (Holiday), I was thinking it was two weekends from now. I "MIGHT" be able to swing Sunday, but not certain yet til about mid week. I am taking Monday and Tuesday 31st & 1st out of town.

Re: Willow Springs Intl' Raceway Event

The fee to get into the pits where you can spectate whether you're racing or watching is $10 if I remember correctly. Racing costs an additional $130 per day IF PREREGISTERED more at the door.

To clarify since it isn't answered on their website, the liability if someone crashes is on the driver(s). There is no insurance provided afaik, when I emailed the coordinator this very question (as it's my first time with this club too) he simply said if a car hits another car, they have to work it out. STUSA does not mediate or provide insurance.

That being said, He also added that over the ten? years they've been doing this only once has a car wrecked, and it wasn't involving another car. That's not a bad track record, along with the corner workers that moderate your driving behavior and safety, I feel reasonably secure in driving on the course. Your mileage may vary, and I will give a full review of them after the race.

Last word, if you want to race, be sure to note the clause that states you MUST attend the beginner group, whether you're an advanced driver or not. They "orient" you to their rules and regulations.

Nothing went right this week. Sorry tom, I just got overwhelmed with alot of stuff and never got around to getting the truck in shape for this. I still need to ge it over an get my #2 RF shock lower bracket welded up so I can get it handling well again. I was able to get it smogged, but I need to get it all the crap back off on get the other TB and injectors back into it.
Heck, its 4:20 am right now and I am up still getting ready to leave for SD in about 8 hours. Gotta get some sleep.

Re: Willow Springs Intl' Raceway Event

My brother and I went in 05 in his 01' porsche Turbo. I drove his car a few times around the track and it was the best driving experience ever. Willow springs staff really show you how to handle the track in the morning debrief, do it.

Re: Willow Springs Intl' Raceway Event

Well it was an awesome experience, I'm still sorting out all the photos, for anyone interested there was a Carerra GT and other exotics besides the standard ricers and TWO third gen's. Even a new fifth gen was out there, really bad-*** looking. I'll post up some pictures and a review in a few days.
