Re: SC3G Fall Super Cruise Sunday November 21st, 2010
1) you put todays computer technology to an old engine (modern EFI tuning) instead of carburation...look the f*ck out.
2) cars back then were powerful... but they were also HEAVY. Modern materials and manufacturing has lowered curb weights. Its all power to weight ratios.
3) Cars so called "complying to CARB standards" is a BS game of the weathy companies paying off the CARB for EO #'s to sell their products. You don;t buy this arguement? then tell me point blank WHY their are different emissions standards for each engine regardless of its displacement- Its all a money game and not equal rights. THis BS of 500 ho smog legal engines now is crap- the handful of you running around with so call "compliant 400 HP tpi motors" are living proof of that that technicoly you are not "legal" if you were to be stupidly honest on your visual inspections- why? because you are not paying off CARB for E.O. testing of your modified parts like major companies (cough EDELCROCK cough) do.
4) Very little technology needs to be put into anything older now to bring it RIGHT UP TO SPEED with anything modern dollar for dollar. I see vintage race cars running circles around newer Porsches and Mustangs and Vettes all day long at speedway events- just look at lap times. You want proof? look at a few cars I have built- you all know my little reputation, ain't nothing I have owned that is not fast on a race track, even that big bulky 4800lb thing Ive displayed in the past. Factory engineers have come a long way in geometry knowhow in retrospec to new vehicles- that is easily backdated to 60 and 70's cars making them faster now then they ever were applying the same learned technology to them for cheap.
People, I can make a school bus fast around a race track. All it takes is modern techniques and knowhow.
Car platforms are designed with much better polar weight distribution as well as center of gravity. Gear boxes are putting down the power far better now then years past- and we have MUCH MORE GEARS NOW THEN EVER. Hell, put a 2 speed powerglide into a 2010 ZR1 Vette or Viper and bring on the suck... talk about taking a modern car into the dinosaur era real quick in track #'s regardless of what kind of "Smog legal" horse power its making.
I could go on all night. We are talking apple to oranges. Muscle cars are still muscle cars and were much quicker in comparison from stock to hotrodded when matched to most anything modern- and for ALOT cheaper.

If I may sugest another question. After thinking a bit more on what I would ask a person who was involved in the design or production of our type of cars I can up with this: Why did they not offer a 5speed 350 powered model? I have heard answers to this question befor, but they did not come from a person who was involved in the design or production or even a knowledgable person on this site so I always took them as "theories".

Why did they not offer a 5speed 350 powered model?
This guy might have a different answer.
I know 4 speeds were not available in muscle cars in CA because the Mfgrs did not want to spend the certification money on so few cars.

Question for the GM guy-
(This is if he DID own a 3rd gen) When did you own a third gen if at any time recent of years past- and assuming that you did then a followup question of what modifications or improvements from stock did you apply to it if any? (regards to Shocks, tires, engine performance, shifter ****, anything other than appearance improvements)
Are you up to speed on all the new aftermarket support for these cars with major companies on the internet with never ending advancements in product support- companies like Global West, Spohn, Umi, Racecraft, TDS, Etc. WHat if any is the product or part upgrade that you are most impressed with?
(If he has no answer, then might we suggest explaining in brief detail a few weaknesses that have become common board knowledge like- the benefit of solid bearing strut mounts, the common install of SFC's, the notorious cracking that ended up happening to just about al models built and the undebatable need for Wander bars on all 3rd gens to prevent this over years of fatigue)

My carbureted 2 barrel 2.8 v-6 auto will try to keep up. found out the rear end that was replaced twice in the first 5 years was for the 4 cylinder and they tried to put it in the v-6 cars and the v-6 would tear up the rear end as it is we have replaced the mount at the back of the trans the bolt keep snapping I guess this engine has more torque then expected and the car keeps passing the emission testing so I can't complain.

Re: SC3G Fall Super Cruise Sunday November 21st, 2010
As of right now the forecast is showing that the majority of the heavy rain is going to be in the early AM hours well before the departure time for the Super Cruise. Between the hours of 12PM and 4PM when we will be on the road the precipitation tapers down from 30% to 10% which hopefully means we will only experience scattered showers while underway.
Most of the Super Cruise route is two lane highways so if someone breaks down it’s going to get interesting. I’d like to ask everyone that is joining us for the Super Cruise to please take to check your fluids, tire pressure/condition, brakes, belts & hoses, air dams, and spare tires. The more proactive we are the less the chance of someone having a breakdown.
This is not a competition and anyone found attempting to test the limitations of their vehicle and/or participate in a speed contest in close proximity to participants of this event will be asked to turn around and/or will have their vehicle photographed and immediately emailed to the California Highway Patrol. The July Super Cruise was without incident and we would very much like to keep it that way. We ask that all Super Cruise participants please govern themselves accordingly.
As a rule we never leave anyone behind so if anyone has any concerns, don’t worry we won’t leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere.
Finally, for those of you that attended the July Super Cruise we will be staging in the same lot behind Hometown Buffet. For those of you joining us for the first time, just look for all of the 3rd gens once you enter the shopping center.
It goes without saying, but I will say it anyway. Absolutely NO consumption of alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, fights, loud music, burnouts, weapons, and/or vending of any kind.
Let’s make it a good one and don’t forget to get those last minute questions in for our Q&A session at Telly’s Don't forget your camcorders & cameras...
Please feel free to contact me with any questions call/text 714-713-0768 or greygoose@sc3g.org

Well, due to the car still not being "right". I will bow out. Can't enjoy a cruise if you can't enjoy the car. Have fun!

Thank you at all of the 3rd gen enthusiasts that braved the elements and participated in the Super Cruise yesterday! We had a total of 12 cars and despite the sun, rain, hail, sleet, snow, mud, and having to negotiate the occasional overturned fullsize chevy the event went off without incident (other than my exchange with the power happy rent-a-cop and later LAPD but we all know how that turned out )
The Q&A session with Richard was amazing! I have a little over 2hrs of video between the cruise footage and the Q&A session so I've got lots of editing to do but will get the videos up sometime this week for everyone to enjoy.
Don't forget, the s

Actually a woman around here had a Gen II "Yellow Bird'. Kind of a creamy yellow very pretty car with the accent stripes etc.
I've seen a "Red Bird" too, I think it had a red rose on the sail panel.
Haven't seen the yellow one in years though.
I almost bought my cousins 78 TA that he redid with the R&R 455.
