recomendation on good shocks/struts

be time for the next project soon. New suspention components. Presently i have two wasted shocks and a set of junk yard springs (both have different spring rates, of coarse ) in the rear and two cheap *** struts up front. What shocks/struts is everyone using? I just want reasonably priced mathcing shocks/struts that give decent handling and ride quality. Im thinking of getting some ac delco premium shocks/struts along w/ some other stuff (new panhard, lca's, sfc's, etc.)

P.S. Good info on new springs would be good, too

KYBs are good 'n cheap. I've had them and Bilstiens. The Bilstiens are much stiffer and handle better, but they cost 3x as much as the KYBs.

If your on a budget check out the KYB's, they are a great shock/strut for the price. If you have the money go with the Bilsteins or Koni reds. I run the Koni reds right now and have been happy with the way they perform. As for the springs, look no further than the Eibach pro-kit.

KYB's look like theyre good bang for my buck... Ill probably hold off on the performance springs for a while and just get OE replacements for the beat ones in the back. I dont want to have racing/performance springs and have shocks that come nowhere near to being well matched to them, not to mention that my car is a daily driver. Thanx for the replies.

I second all that. Go with the KYBs is you're on a budget, they'll work great. As for me, I just did the Eibachs and KYBs. I hope you're not passing on the Eibachs 'cause you think performance springs will make the car ride rough. They don't. I drove my '91 RS today, and after driving my freshly rebuilt Iroc over the weekend, I think the RS is way too soft. I absolutely love the new suspension. The springs and shocks/struts will run you less than $500 total.

not as much as rough but bouncy (being underdamped) is what im worrying about. Hows the car handle over bumps. My brother got some stiffer srpings and it bounced like crazy whenever he went over a bump. Hey if the kyb's can hang with some decent springs then ill pick those up, too.

Being how everything is new, my car rides like a dream. It's not too bouncy at all, it just feels stiffer. Very responsive, too. Even the wife likes it.

I recommend Tokico Illumina 5-Way Adjustable Shocks & Struts. I've riden in cars with them installed (not all 3rd gens) and they ride great and handle exeptionally well compared to stocks. They are fairly expensive, $525 for the set from Spohn, but the ability to adjust them for drag/street/autocross makes them worth it in my book.

Here's the setup I'm going with on my 92 B4C. This won't be much help if you're on a budget (this is an expensive setup) but this should make the car really handle. Hoping for 1+ lateral G''s..

If i had the money id do that, but, that 1950 is more then i paid for my car Anyrate... Ill probably get the KYB's and soem eibach springs along w/ a few other things to replace my fagged out suspention.

I've got an Eibach pro-kit with KYB GR-2 struts and gas-a-just shocks. I'm still running the 15 inch rims and I think it handles well. It is a lot stiffer than stock, but it doesn't make my kidneys bleed or anything.

Im almost finished with my suspension, just have the springs, shocks and struts left. Im definately going with an Eibach Prokit but im trying to decide if i want to go all out about spend 400+ for the struts and shocks. Does anyone have any experience or know how good the KYB AGX shocks are, i like the fact that they are adjustable and will only cost around420 for the set from summit? THank you

I'd shop around a bit on the prices. I got the Tokico Illumina's and springs as a kit for about 525. If memory serves the springs that come with the kit are Pro-lines. Check prices at www.shox.com which are where I think I got mine. Also try www.groupawheels.com/prod03.htm they claim to have the best prices on tokico products. Hell get your price quote from both and pit them against one another, see if they'll play hardball . It's worth spending probably less than $100 more and getting a far superior product. The Tokico suspension kit was the best money I have spent on the car to date. I damn near wet myself the first time I drove the car after I installed the springs and shocks.

I'm leaning definately to some Afco double adjustable coilovers with 225lb springs in the rear and have so far modified/beefed-up the lower shock mount and am haveng some 1/8" metal disks plasma cut to the exact shape I need and welded to the upper mount area to help support the coilover just to be certain of safety.

For the fronts, I'm still debating, but I am strongly looking towards Ground Controls Advanced Designed Struts. I need to contact them in the near future to find out more info on these. I believe they need my existing strut housing to retro fit the strut to my application. They are 4lbs lighter and stronger than Konis and are double adjustable.
