Ok to use aftermarket K on car that totaled & repaired?
Should I use an aftermarket K-member on my 3rd Gen LS1 swap?
Pro Fab has a sell on K members and a mild steel one is ~$299. Header fitment for an LS1 in a 3rd Gen is an issue. I have a custom set of 1 3/4 inch LT headers being made that will work with the stock K. However, getting another 40 lbs out of the nose of the car seems like a good idea.
Here is what I'm worried about. My 3rd Gen was totaled a year 1/2 ago. Shock tower pushed back into the engine, nose was demolished etc. Body shop spot welded the subframe because they were concerned the car had been hit so hard that pulling on the frame machine might cause the car to break apart & be destoryed. The car was pulled repair and pulled again to make sure all specs were dead on. Another shop said based on the alignment etc they couldn't tell the car hade ever been hit...never mind hit as hard was it actually was. The car was repaired and is once again my daily driver. The car "behaves" exactly like before ie drives the same. BTW - shop used to fix damaged new cars for GM before that became a no no several years ago.
My concern is with the kind of hit the car took if I tried to switch the K would I be setting myself up for problems? Would a new aftermarket K be likely to fit properly?
Thanks

Was the k-member repaired or replaced after the wreck? If everything was pulled back in place with the k-member in place, you may have fitment problems.
