I have an 89 IROC Z28. The steering column is developing lateral play. Movement is on the tilting part of the column. Has anyone ever had a problem like this? Suggestions on a fix will Greatly Be Appreciated!

Also when I did mine the directions said to unscrew the tilt lever but my tilt lever is welded in so before I realized this I messed up the plastic on the lever. =)

LuckyDucky sure did a Great Job writing up the repair procedure!

My left hand turn signal does not return and I would like ti fix that problem also while I have my hands in the column. Anyone know what parts I need to fix it?

Tightening the problem will most likely fix it. A loose column will cause problems with the signals and the high beam switch. Just do a function test as you put everything back together.

Thank You. We have had the IROC now for 2.5 wks and when we got it steering column was tight. Maybe it wasn't as tight as it should of been and we didn't notice the problem. But now we are driving it every day it has loosened up real fast.

I just don't want to go through all of this work and find out I still have a turn signal problem. If it is a small part that needs to be replaced I wouldn't mind doing the replacement while locktiting and tighting up the 4 bolts that are loose. I just don't want to do the job twice.

The turn signal switch, or multi-function lever, can be replaced without taking the column apart, but chances are your problems all stem from the loose column. Hope you get everything tight and it all works like new.
