I noticed today that at highway speeds the rear veiw mirror was bouncing a lot. I put my hand up there and realized that the windshield ( which is cracked real bad) and the roof were bouncing ( T-Top car). As you get closer to the "A" pillar you no longer feel it.

I was getting a new windshield this week but with that much movement I would hate to break the new one.

Should I get sfc instead?

Seems to me you should also get your wheels rebalanced... I'm going to do mine this spring since they have started developing some vibrations, and usually it's there it comes from from my experience. SFC will be a good addition to the car no matter what though, and could have prevented the cracked windscreen in the first place I guess.

I'd do
1 rebalnce wheels
2 sfc
3 windshield

That is, if it's not that bad it's illigal, and you will have the money for the screen soon.

Well, you never know, they migh have fubar'ed them while mounting them, or a weight fallen off. Very quick and cheap to just get the wheels on the dial and see if their still 10/10.

Then again, it could be a completely other matter.

It's just that it's not supposed to be like that, so although sfc surely would help, it will only be a bandaid, and not fix the source of the problem, which seems to me is some imbalance somewhere. Now if you also have a cracked roof or similar, this might not apply, but if the car is otherwise fine, I would rather look for worn out things in the suspension, and the first place I would start would be with the wheels.

Perhaps someone else has experienced this on their car and can help you more than I can.

Does the vibration happen under load(on the gas) or when you let off?
Or is it just a constant.

One thing you may want to check during all this is your driveshaft/U-joints.
Bad U-joints will cause a bad vibration/resonation in your car. If your car is "clunking" real bad when you put it in gear....prob a U-joint.

A driveshaft out of balance may cause havoc, too.

just a thought, somethin you may not have thought of.

It was not a vibration, just a bounce. Seemed to follow bumps in the road ( I75 in south Ga is not very smooth) but it also seemed to be less when i was, uhh, drafting. So it may have been the wind.

Windshield was cracked from the rear view being ripped out before I got the car. I have replaced it. Most of the lines are on the passenger side but there is one loop that comes left, almost in my view , then it goes all the way right.

I have just about convinced myself that the cracks are the cause, like the windshield is flexing.

Any thoughts?
