Lowering springs/shock combo

I'm researching my suspension rebuild on Kitt, and want lowering springs for sure. I'd like it to be the lower the better because the KNight Rider front bumper makes the front overhang of the car even longer. I know Sportlines are the lowest ride, but I am concerned about ground clearance. Is there a good strut/shock combo that compensates for the soft Sportline springs?
I was originally going to use the Pro-Kit, but I wanted to know if there's a way to use the lower Sportlines and compensate the ride quality with stiffer springs.
I'd also like to know your spring/shock combo's and opinions on them.

Re: Lowering springs/shock combo

well koni yellows are probably the best, over the counter, somewhat affordable shock for a lowered application

Inatrax (spl) make a spring that lowers more that the sportlines and i believe its stiffer

Re: Lowering springs/shock combo

I think I've decided on the Koni yellows for shock/struts. I'm leaning towards the Pro-Kit as well, however I've seen K-Sport springs on ebaymotors. They say all 4 springs are progressive and lower the front and rear 1.75" Anyone used them or have an opinion?

Re: Lowering springs/shock combo

KONIs yes. Don't know about the springs, though. Maybe a set of weight jacks so you can choose the ride height and spring rates?

Re: Lowering springs/shock combo

I don't think I'm going to take a chance on the unknown brand springs. On shox.com they've got a package of 4 Koni Sports with the Pro-Kit for around $850. I think I'm going to go with that. I read your post about setting up the proper suspension and I think I'll be pleased with this setup. Relocation brackets, adj panhard bar, torque arm, and tubular trailing arms are the next purchase. What do ya think?

Re: Lowering springs/shock combo

They aren't unknown. They are the ERS springs (Eibach Race Spring), they are just cut to the rate and height you choose, and come with adjusters so you can fine tune the ride height. Pretty neat set-up and very durable. They are what I am getting when I get the money (after the LS1 swap).

Sounds like you are on the right track. Might want to look into some SFCs as well. I have a set for mine, but they are currently hanging out in my bedroom. You could look into making your own LCAs and PHB for less than what you can buy them if you want adjustable pieces. Take a look at page 2 of my CarDomain (click my signature picture) and you can see what I mean.

Re: Lowering springs/shock combo

Does any one know the correct ride height for a KITT replica?

The book Knight Rider Legacy says that KITT was lowered 2" to make him look meaner... but it doesn't say what they started with or ended up with... I have 7" ground clearance on my car... there is about 5 1/2" between the tops of my tires and the wheel wells... I have 15" rims... anyone have any suggestions?

I guess if I knew the ground clearance of a stock '82 TA that would be a start...

Cheers Tom
