Drivetrain alignment
Hello I am not happy with my spohn lsx swap package.I am going to make a crossmember that allows room for dual exhaust. I also have a few clearance issues with the engine location.I have 1" set back engine mounts and will be making standard conversion plates to resolve my clearance issues. I also have a new moser 9" in the car and the yoke is off center.my question is,since I am relocating everything should I position the engine in the car center, strait and true, per original design or should I center the front of the engine and offset the tail shaft to make the crank, tranny, driveshaft, and pinion all run in a strait line?

Re: Drivetrain alignment
The engine is not straight and true, steering shaft moved it to the right a tad, then it tilts a tad, and the rear end center section is close to center yet tilted again.
If you run everything in line and "true" you will eat drive shaft ujoints fast.
as the needle bearings will just sit in one place.

Re: Drivetrain alignment
It is a moser unit for a third gen. I don't know what if any changes they made to help for this particular application. I am under the assumption that it is bolt in and go,and it should work properly. The pan hard rod makes the whole set up move diagonally not strait up and down so it's a little hard to tell what, who, when and where perfect is.

Re: Drivetrain alignment
If the axle is not centered in the car, an adjustable panhard will correct this.

Re: Drivetrain alignment
your overthinking it. just put the rear in there, set pinion angle and run it. if its a moser, the pinion should be in the center of the rear. i would set my engine in the center and aim it towards the pinion, once you've got the rearend centered in the car.

Re: Drivetrain alignment
IIRC engine should be level and the transmission should be rotated a few degrees. My rear is centered at ride height. The pan hard bar is strait/level. I found center with some string and it tells me that the engine is in fact center, strait and true per the spohn components, but the engine is not level it sits lower on the passenger side and the tranny is level not rotated. Also the pinion is of center by 1 1/2"
