Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!

UMI,

Can we pre-order the road race k-member version instead, as that part is the one I'm interested in? And do we get an additional discount if we order the a-arms with them as well?

Thanks!

Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!

I am not familiar with Dyno Don's headers but any header that clears a factory k-member will work with this k-member. Ours will offer more clearance.

You should be able to remove the oil pan with this k-member.

Marc- Once the LSX version finished we will concentrate on a RR version.. I can work you up a pre-order if you want. It might be a month or so but let me know.

The attached picture is some LSX design work.

Thanks!

Will the lsx one have different features the regular or.RR one won't have? Just curious for.those who are getting the regular or RR piece and swap a lsx later.

Unfortunately due to oil pan clearance on the LS engine there will be some changes at the bottom of the k-member in the center tube area.

A standard non-LS k-member will work with an LS engine with these two things.

1. Our motor mount brackets which can be purchased separate.
2. A Moroso oil pan that offers clearance for the factory k-member.

Our LS k-member will work on all engines including the TPI and SBC/BBC. It will cost a little more because it includes extra mounts that adapt an LS1 engine to the k-member.

The reason we are offering these different styles is we are very happy with our dual tube design, it has proven itself well. The LS engine pan interferes with the 2nd tube so we are finalizing some creative ways now to still maintain it along with the support. It will be different than the TPI/SBC design.

Once the road race version is completed it will feature additional gussets and supports that neither regular version will have.

Good to know! Will the engine height remain the same as stock or be lower?

Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!

Hello Everyone,

I just want to post to help clear somethings up.

Right now the k-members are in production. We have been trying very hard to get them completed as quick as possible. We have also been trying to keep this thread updated with the progress to show we are diligently working on this item. If you ordered the k-member please have faith we will have it completed shortly and that you will receive a perfect item.

Right now we have a lot of people checking on the status. We can't speed this process up any quicker with out taking a chance of messing something up. We don't mind if you check on them but it does make it difficult to give you an accurate answer at this point and when we do give an estimate we are being held to it... I don't want to lie to anyone. Our goal is to ship as the orders were received. First come, first serve.

Secondly, because of the amount we have sold if you order today you are still looking at 3-4 weeks to ship. The ONLY reason this item is still discounted is because this is a pre-order price, because you have to wait we are taking 20% off the price of the item. Once this item is completed and we can stock it the introductory price will go away. So please understand at this price we are requiring a wait, this is a pre-order price.

I hope no one takes this the wrong way, I am just trying to clear things up and prevent any false information.

Thank you again for the patience!
Ryan

Ordered the K-member and A-arms today! No big hurry for me to get them. My GTA will be going to the paint shop soon and no telling how long they will take. Feel free to add as many road race options to mine as possible. My name's Andrew.

Factory k-member by itself weighs 52lbs. Factory A-arms weigh 31 lbs together. If my math is correct that would be 83lbs for k-member and a-arms

We got 43.6 with out the motor mounts. Motor mounts are slightly heavy so I can see over 50 with them.. If I get a chance I will weight a set.

Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!

It looks like this K-member was designed for stock oil pan fitment, is that correct? Great for ground clearance, but will deeper aftermarket pans fit, or does it essentially have the same dimensions as the stock crossmember?

Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!

I would imagine the deep pans would fit all aftermarket kmembers since they were made for drag racing and autocross applications. My summit 7qt oilpan fits just fine on my pa racing kmember.

Our k-member has additional clearance over and above the factory k-member.

If a pan fits a factory k, it'll fit ours. Most of the pan upgrades happen more toward the rear of the pan, away from the cross tubes.

If you're running a specialized pan, contact us with pics or a part number to determine fitment. We tried a number of aftermarket pans with no clearance issues.

After some time we are unable to include A/C clearance with our design with out effecting the integrity of the part. Also after some research and speaking with some customers many people ditched the A/C when doing this swap, many mentioned the challenge of running the lines and converting it was too much. Others mentioned they had no desire for A/C. So A/C will work if relocated upward, we figured if you are going to the extent of this swap a few extra dollars to relocation the A/C shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks again!
Ryan
That sucks!
I was hoping to have a/c clearance built in.

We had a good day today concerning the new k-member. Jerry had full production of the mounting pads via CNC and also made a few improvements to the weld jig.

We'll post a pic when the first one is fully welded.

Realistically a few weeks for standard SBC. LS engine to immediately follow (we are working on those mounts concurrently).

This project is actually our number one focus each day.

Like I said before, no hurry for mine. What all gussets, road race options, and extra support brackets will the K-members have? I'm wanting my car to handle as well as possible. I just ordered a bunch of other UMI parts from Summit.

Awesome on the UMI/Summit. Thanks for your purchase.

Our initial SBC has our famous twin tube design which improves strength even on the base model. We will also offer a road race version with extra support similar to our 4th gen models.

During this development we are also focused on LS power mounts.

So, 4 models. SBC, SBC road race, LS, LS road race.

Thanks for your interest.

About a month away from being able to get one of these bad boys for the LSx swap. Only problem I will have is not being able to install it right away once received as I will be in Korea for 12 months. Thats cool though. Will give me something to look forward to among others once I return.

Looks like you guys are taking great pride in getting these ready for us!!! I appreciate it as I'm sure the others do! My other aftermarket suspension Mods are from you as I suspect everything else will be too!

I don't know if Ryan has set the price difference yet. The 4th Gen is $80 different standard vs road race as a comparison.

We are taking pride in making sure it's correct before release. Each morning at our engineering meeting it seems we come up with a little improvement or cool idea. We actually do listen to your suggestions! (Meaning thirdgen.org guys).

More importantly, thanks for your service to our country.

This is why I ordered mine from you guys. Your revised a-arms showed that you actually listen to your customers and adjust accordingly.

Just curious, are there going to be provisions for mounting the brake lines?

ive been waiting for one of these for years. I'm wanting an lsx version, but theres no way to use my a/c with it. Either i ditch the a/c, do a remote mount turbo or i have to go to another brand. bummer

You can use an A/C relocation kit like Kwik Performance offers... it allows A/C to be used since it brings the compressor up to the top. It looks like a well designed and good quality kit.

Hi Team UMI! I do run an A/C, but before I get bummed about this, I noticed that you specifically call out the LSX K-Member. Does this mean that the SBC version will *not* have the A/C relocation issue? I am just looking for clarity.

And speaking of clarity, I have a Cross-Fire Injection setup and run a TBI, (remember us? ) and though not called out, I'm assuming there's no height or hook-up issue or whatnot with this for my application?

Also, I as well am interested in the Road Race version, but in relation to the pre-orders, I know once you start shipping out the standard K's, the pre-order discount will go away, but as you'll then be moving on to the "RR" version, will there be a new pre-order window opening specifically for that part? I hope so as I'd like to get a better idea about it and it's price before I do a "blind pre-order" for a piece that you guys are not working on right now.

Also, btw, the pics I've seen look great and I truly appreciate the attention to detail and the dedication to trying to "get it right the first time" (as you guys put it), with this. It's looking to be a fantastic line!

Lastly, and I hate to be a pain, but in the first post in this thread you say many times: "The K-member will except..."

Which means: "The K-member will excluding..."

I think you guys were going for: "The K-member will accept..."

Sorry, grammer police. It's been driving me crazy for months. There's a "T" missing from the word "The" under part #2404, but my brain apparently doesn't mind adding that in, it's just the subbing of words that twists my eyes up. @_@

Thanks again for all the hard work, can't wait to see the final products!

Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!

Xan,

The A/C clearance is only with an LS1 engine, the A/C compressor is mounted towards the bottom of the engine and will hit the k-member, it hits the factory k-member as well. A Corvette or truck A/C may work with out issues, we haven't tried. There is no A/C issues with the SBC, TPI and TBI... all these engines will bolt right in with no issues at all.

You will have no issues with the Crossfire engine.

I can offer you a pre-order price on a road race version if you are interested. The RR version will basically consist of some extra gusseting work to reinforce some critical areas. I will mention, as with our 4th gen k-member the RR version is only needed if the vehicle is actually being RR.

The RR version pre-order price will be $503.99, this is for standard SBC/TPI/TBI mounts with coil springs. If you are interested just let me know and I would be glad to help

I hope that helps,
Ryan

it does look well designed, the problem i'm running in to is that is the area of the vehicle where the turbo will be mounted. so i'm thinking the a/c compressor will interfere with the hot and cold side. i sent an email a few days ago through the website, but i guess i will ask here, you respond faster. Do you guys have any idea if the spohn mounts will work with the k-member? I figure i'd ask since i already have them.

Our mounting pads are designed around the factory V8 engine mounts. Can you clarify which Spohn product you're talking about?

Also, did you submit a web question? I answer all of them within a few hours. If I didn't get it, I apologize.

Re: UMI Performance 3rd Generation K-member Now Available!

these, i have those from my when i bought the spohn kmember and a-arms. just wondering if i can reuse them? or if yours are specific to your kmember? thanks.

i'll look through my spam folder, see if it got caught in there. thanks for the fast response though, i've always had great dealings with you guys.

i'm hoping i can use the ls3 corvette oilpan also, it fit, but barely rubbed the spohn kmember

If I'm not mistaken the spohn mounts use the V6 holes on the K. I was wondering the same thing... only with a racecraft K

Can any of the UMI sales team confirm if any of these parts can be ordered in "bare metal" (without powder coat).

their mount may use one maybe two of the v6 holes, but not all of them. the v6 pattern is a triangle.

We occasionally process special requests such as uncoated product. Email me at ramey@umiperformance.com for a quote.

Naturally we prefer to ship powder coated for maximum protection of the part.

Will the Kmember accept factory triangular braces like the Spohn one?
