Got hit today

Like the title says, guy pulled in my lane and clipped my car. Fender seems like it's toast and the wheels aren't straight. Hoping they don't total it. Worst case I can replace the fender, wheel and front suspension. Doesn't look like anything got bent. What do you guys think? I'm pretty upset about this being its my first car.

If you love the car, fix it!

Take the insurance money.

Keep the title.

Re: Got hit today

Doesn't look too bad to me. Fender, bumper, wheel, tire like stated.

How's the under side look? That hard of hit in the wheel I'd be a little concerned about other things like strut, end links, sway bar, and tie rods.

Re: Got hit today

Yea something bent underneath. I'm hoping just a tie rod. The wheel I'm not sure if that can be bent back or not. So it's worth buying back?

Re: Got hit today

Maybe but I've seen rims bust of on tire mounter from weak spots. Maybe they could be fixed but probably just easier to get a replacement. Last time I had a claim they said 110 per oem 16" rim to buff out curb rash. I just kept the money. I could easily get them 75 per at the yard if I wanted.

Re: Got hit today

Take it to a "old car" friendly shop. I went to a few and they didn't want to touch it cause parts were hard to get for them.

Sometimes you have to provide the parts, thats what I did and wound up saving some of the insurance money for other stuff.

It will work out.

Re: Got hit today

Thanks guys! I hate to let a good Third gen die. I'm just worried about how hard the wheel hit. Hope nothing else bent other then a tie rod.

Re: Got hit today

tie rod, spindles, a-arm, etc. all that can be replaced, as long as the frame isn't bent you should be okay.. Even if it was bent, you could still technically get a shop to re-align it again, although for a cost.. That would depend on how much $$$ you put into the car to justify the worth of doing that. If that happened to me, that's what I would do.

Re: Got hit today

Keep it, Looks like a easy fix. My only concern is the frame, but it doesn't look like its bent. Fix: Fender, suspension. I would keep it as it being a sentimental thing as first car (I still have my first car - 85z28)

Re: Got hit today

I ended up letting them total it. They wrote me a check for 4k. They told me the engine cradle was bent. Two weeks later I found a 84 T/A L69. Sad to had to let my firebird go but I was afraid it wasn't worth fixing if it was bent.

Re: Got hit today

The k-member still may have been bent, but they fixed the aesthetics and got a wheel alignment and sold it as such (not telling it was in an accident). So who knows....Glad you were able to get a new vehicle and it sounds like the old bird is still on the road anyway...

Re: Got hit today

My buddy's 89 t/a got hit in nearly the same spot yours did. His tie rod was bent and the wheels pointed in different directions. I looked at it and thought it was ok but the front was bent and it got totaled as well. Its too bad to see a third gen go down like that. His didn't get fixed. It was raped for parts by whoever got it. Had a tranny rebuilt with upgrades with only like 3k on it at the time of the wreck. He had the car for 3 weeks.
