I HAVE AN 88 PICKUP WITH A 350 TBI WITH THE EDELBROCK CAM,
VORTECH HEADS AND THE GM VORTECH TBI INTAKE WITH HEADERS AND A OPEN EELMENT. I JUST FINISIED PUTING ON THE VORTECH HEADS A WEEK AGO BEFORE I HAD THE STOCK SWIRLPORTS AND NOW MY AIR FUEL RATIO GUAGE SAYS IT RUNNING LEAN MOST OF TIME ESPECIALLY UNDER LOAD IT ALSO IDLES ROUGER THAN BEFORE. IT ALWAYS WILL BOG WHEN I GIVE IT SOME GAS AND WILL SOMETIMETIMES BACKFIRE THROUGH THE INTAKE IF I TRY AND GET ON IT. SOMETIMES IT ALSO STALLS WHEN ITS IDELING.DO I HAVE TO GET A CUSTOM CHIP OR WILL A ADUSTABLE PRESSURE REGULATOR WORK? IF I HAVE TO SPEND SEVERAL HUNDRED ON A CHIP ILL JUST THROW A CARB ON IT I WAS ALSO LOOKING AT THE MIXTURE ENHANCER FORM TURBO CITY WICH IS SUPPOSED TO CHANGE THE FEUL CURVE
ANY SUGGESTIONS AT WHAT THE TIMING SHOULD BE SET AT, ITS AT 6 BEFORE RIGHT NOW
ANYWAYS WHAT DO GUYS THINK THANKS ALOT

i just wanted to be the first to tell you that a custom chip is going to be a necessity in the long run since you have done cam and head work. But for now you might just want to mess with the timing and up the fuel pressure and see if that helps any, if not, then you will need to chip now.

I've been looking into burning chips myself and I don't think it will take "several hundred". I belive you can get started for around 200. You can download a program called WINALDL that will allow your to get readings from all the sensors in the car that program is free. You will need a cable to use the program and I hear you can get the parts for that for around $10. Then read the gettings started post on the DIY Prom page to find out what else you need.

Good Luck
Bill

I agree with vjo.

If you need a chip, contact Scoggin-Dickey Chevrolet or Pace. They both sell a Vortec -TBI conversion and could probably make you a chip to complement your bolt ons. I think they get just under $200 for them
