tbi challenge runs

hey guys,
i was wondering who would be aroudn to play on sunday sept 1 or sunday sept 8?
i think sept 8 will be a better idea since it gives everyone a littl emore time to plan.
i woudl like to try to get a nuch of guys together at island for one of their sunday test and tunes to see if we can get some times from everyone.
we are most likely gonna have some tpi company too, so it woudl be a good time to show up and strut your stuff.
let me know which weekend is better for everyone.
remeber we are interested in everything from stock to completely modified. any car or truck with tbi is welcome to join in the fun.
i am gonna be posting this on other boards to see if we can drum up a crowd. let me know what you guys think.

Thinking about it, probably yes but depends on if a certain somebody will hook me up with some parts AND return phone calls to confirm plans. All I remember was, "I'm in the KFC drivethrough, I'll call you back."

Sunday the 8th?

I will try to make it home for it. I will be at school, but its only Delaware.

I been looking for an excuse to run. By then I will have full exhaust: SLP 1 5/8ths, SLP Y-pipe, 3 inch CarSound High Flow Cat, 3 inch back w/80 series Flows.

I also will have done a Smog Delete, and new Shocks/Struts. Also have the Centerforce DF Clutch.

That, with my other mods what do you think I stand a chance of running. Keep in mind that if I run 3 times sunday, this will be runs 4, 5, and 6 for me. So I am not 'experienced'.

Plus, last time I ran this it turned an AWFULL best of 17.2 completely stock. (and i think with a clogged cat, and slipping clutch, but that's never been proven)

Do you think mid-high 15's are possible?

Oh, and I'll take some PopCorn Chicken!

VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!

hey guys,
i have now talked to island 3 times and finally got the straight story about our planned date. the event that they list on their calendar does take up the whoel track for the whoel day. so we are gonna have to push it back a week to the 15th.
seems teh person i talked to two weeks ago was not looking at the schedule when she answered. no biggies, it gives everyone a a little more time to get their cars prepped.

Someone drive down to Ohio, get the RS, put my posi / 3.42 rear end in, drive it back to NJ and take it down the 1320 boogie. Just tell my dad you're a friend!

John, Is the car drivable, cause I know someone that will probably do it for cheap or free. Most likely free, but somehow youll have to get the car down here.

Nextly, Well, i don't think I'll be going to the challenge. I was just hit with a 200 dollar speeding ticket and my points are now going to go up along with my insurance. Im royally screwed beyond belief on this right now. Im probably going to pull the firebird off the road for awhile till i get everything straighted out, and try to appeal this and all. Red car with stripes = Cop heaven. So before anything else goes wrong I'm gonna let it sit, maybe do engine work to it during that time.

Sorry guys, Im so PO'ed and depressed about this. When I got home I went around the block and cursed and screamed as i floored my car onto the hiway and that made me feel a little bit better. This has literally been the worst week of my life.

Heh... bad luck.... I hit a minivan the other day and after that (repairing the damage from hitting the minivan in the garage) i accidentally knocked my car into gear and it went right through the garage door.

I donno, i might come up. I dont know if i want to come up just to run high 14's or maybe worse yet, high 15's. Plus my tranny is on its way out and im sure it wouldnt appreciate the abuse.

it is about an hour and 15mins north. it is in the town of great measows, nj. you just go straight up rt31 to where it ends and hang a right. the track is about 5miles up that road. if you came home on fri or sat and headed back down sunday night you will just have an hour longer than normal drive back to school.

Prevost -

Are you going to have your chip burning equip there on Sunday?

If I do end up getting the headers on by then, I would like to do a few runs without a chip, then have u burn me one, and do some runs with the chip. Just to see what kind of difference it can make.

Hell, even if I dont get the headers, maybe we can do that. Just let me know if you'll have the stuff.

Also - let me know if you have the computer. There's a salvage yard near my house with one. If u'd rather me grab that one, it can be done.

Kurt, that lost ecm problem I was having was all because of Tim . I had forgotten that I programmed an eprom for Tim to disable his VATS. It didn't work and I had completely forgotten that I gave him the eprom WITH the ecm because it has the zif socket. So he's got them both.
Yeah, I'll be there with my equipment and computer stuff.

Jon, in case you did not see it there is now a patch to eliminate the forced knock test. It also enables PE SA right off. No need for the forced knock test to run first. It is in the DIY-PROM sticky for the code patch demo. Patch is called code43.

Basically the patch sets the status bit as though the forced knock test has been successfully run.

RBob.

Cool, I was always wondering if that forced knock test was a good thing or not. It never seemed to make any sence UNLESS the ecm would learn it's own SA table. That's not going to happen any time soon so thank you for the patch, I'll use it and let you know how it works out.

Latest Update ...

On me anyhow ...

The headers will NOT be installed in time for the races on Sunday. I am still going to make it and run, but I dont really expect any good times. Can someone make an educated guess for me? (Mods in sig)

Hopefully halfway through the day Prevost can do me a little chip burning.

See you all there

high 15's im guessing. Without gears and headers installed, the other mods wont help your ET to noticeable. The ultimate TBI mods will help a little though.

WELL, WE MAY GET THE MORNING, WHICH SUCKS FOR ME BECAUSE I WORK NIGHTS AND DON'T GET UP UNTILL 'ROUND 11. BUT, THEY TYPICALLY GIVE YOU A FREE PASS TO COME BACK ON DAYS THEY CUT SHORT FOR WEATHER. THE ONLY CATCH IS YOU HAVE TO USE IT THIS SEASON. I'VE HAD THIS HAPPEN ON RACE DAYS BUT I'M PRETTY SURE THEY DO IT FOR TEST AND TUNE DAYS TOO. YOU CAN CALL THEM AT 908 637 6060 TO FIND OUT, MY PARTNER IS USING THE PHONE NOW SO I'LL CALL LATER MAYBE AND FIND OUT

thanks for the faith man
i just picked up supplies to make a cold air intake and a new air box for the car. i am gonna try to get my car inspected this week too, if i t passes i am gonna be taking the cat off to see if i can grab a little more top end power. this shoudl be enough to make it into a really good race.

we'll have to wait an extra week to see though, it has started raining and it is supposed to continue all day tomorrow.

that shoudl give us all enough time to get soem mroe mods doen though. i am not sure if we are gonna try to do this on sat or sun, but i know it will be over teh weekend. prolly sat night soemwhere that has lanes.

i managed to screw all teh wiring up and in my attempts to fix it i managed to get it so it woudln't even start. i got frustrated and gave up. i am getting money/parts together for the 400 motor that i am gonna put in it.
i have most of the cash together already and some of the parts are already here. just need to get a bottom end kit and then start collecting the little stuff for it and i will be set. hopefully i will do teh assembly in december.

What time is this Saturday @ E-Town?

Is it a test and tune day?

If I bring a timing light and a distributor wrench, will someone show me how to correctly advance my timing? I dont know at all how to read that jagged metal clip.

Prevost - still good for doing a chip & CPU for me?

i am taking the cav
gonna take a few time shots then park it prolly. dunno if i wanna race it or not. it is terribly inconsistant, that makes it a horrible bracket car, and i don't think it is exactly heads up caliber yet

It's 1:55am and I'll be there. I went tonight to watch a friend race his max, humid and BTW, the Tazzo showed a 15.1 when he went 15.3 but what pissed me off the most is that it showed a 2.1 60' when he really only got a 2.3 . That's WAY off but so long as it's consistent it doesn't matter.

duh, it's way off because it was never calibrated. i gotta get it back from you and calibrate it, then we'll be able to say how accurate it really is.
well, my car slowed a bit, but i had a good time. i won two rounds and took home a trophy.
i think what is happening is that the ultimate modded tb i put on the extra air leaned out the fuel mixture too much and cost me power. i was off by a littl emore than 1 mph and the air wasn't that much worse thanthe last time i went. i am gonna figure out a way to fix the fuel pressure regulator and go back. the fuel lines prevent a normal diy afpr, but i will figure something out.
