EGR blockoff on a Jimmy 4.3

I bought a 92 GMC Jimmy it has a 4.3 TBI engine. When i got it the engine was idling rough. I saw that the EGR valve was loose causing a leak. Well when I got it home it looks like someone put the wrong EGR valve on the engine because the bolt spacing is farther apart on the manifold than the EGR that is on there to make it bolt up they sawed the bolt holes open then put on big washers. I went to the GM dealer and they took the vin# off the truck to get the correct EGR valve but the one they gave me also has the narrow bolt spacing. I think it may not be the original engine. They say there is 7 different EGR valves for that engine. So I have made a blockoff plate and have diconnected the vacuum. It runs much better now. Will this cause any problems?
Where are the codes on the 4.3, so I can find out if it is not original or find out what it is out of. -Rod-

This isnt thirdgen related. Sorry but I gotta close it. You can still post tbi related questions here at TGO but if its specifically out of the realm of thirdgens then itll be locked.

Donno about what intakes or what egrs where available for the 4.3's, Id assume its similar to the stuff the thirdgens got. Its possible that maybe you no longer have a stock intake.

As for blocking it off, the ecm takes fuel out and adds some spark since the exaust gasses are essentially fuel of a sort. Not having the exaust gasses present can cause detonation with the leaner mixture and additional timing. The ecm also looks for the egrs effect on manifold pressure so if its not there then itll set a code 32 from time to time during steady cruise.
