Average track times for a stock 305

I am running 16.6 in my stock 305 TBI @ 2300 feet. (Here in Vegas)

I was just wondering what any of you other 3rd gens are running stock and what if your elevation.

I am also an atuo with no posi and I just wanted to see some other stock times before I start modding the car.

Welcome abaord man. You will find that most stock LO3 cars run anywhere from 15's to 17's. State of tune, mileage, suspension condition and other factors really put a toll on low ET's. Most well running LO3's without worn suspensions can run low to mid 15's.

Thanks for the welcoming.

YA, I understand that. It is a 305 TBI with 72k original miles on it with an auto.

I am cutting 2.2 - 2.3 60 ft's and running the best of 16.6 @ 79.8 mph.

Your 60' are half way decent so I would try to maybe shift at a higher RPM. The tachs in these cars are really off. You can use a scan tool or an aftermarket tach to see how far off it is. Some guys have picked up .5 sec by letting it rev a little higher. Some tachs will read 5k+ and really only be around 4100 rpm or so.

I'd also say give it a good full tuneup. Your trap speeds are a little low I think. You could probably gain some just by tuneing it up completely.

i got a 92 rs with an lo3 with 170,000miles, a hurst 5 speed and i have flipped the lid on my element with a taller filter, no exhaust past y pipe (which i do not recommend, its only temporary), hypertech chip, and 3.42 limited slip rear and i run 15.6 at 92mph. those 5.0 HO mudstains don't know what to think.

PS. don't worry the car is in storage till i get the new exhaust so i don't fry pistons with the exhaust the way it is. edelbrock headers and borla catbacks aren't cheep so it'll be a while before i get to drive it again

Well, when I first bought mine it needed a tune up badly and the muffler was hanging off of it. I took it to the track the next day and bested a 16.1 with it.

Went home and to my friends shop, had him do my exhaust...ordered a couple parts...and did a nice full tune-up and I bested a 15.29 after that.

I dont think that time is bad at all for the elevation, plus i know it was hotter then hell. What was temp. when you got that time? I spend a lot of time in vegas, and temps past 115* arent uncommon.
