Getting ready to spent a shiny penny....

I just dropped my car off at the shop (mainly because I don't have time to do the work myself. I have more money then I do time)

He is going to pull the 305 TBI & either replace it with the 1991 z-28 5.7 or the caprice police 5.7 from jasper engines. reusing my TBI.

He is also going to rebuild the 700R4 with a vette servo & use a torque converter from a 1995 4.3L S-10.

I addition a powertrax lockright is going to be put out back with fresh 3.73 gears.

B&M megashifter

A new Walbro fuel pump & fuel level sending unit along with a new turn/dimmer/cruise/wiper switch. Sending unit & switch needs to be replaced already.

Headers with a whole new exaust system.

Strut tower brace.

He also is going to tune it & burn the chip.

I know I could have choosen other options as for enging & tranny. But with the new emmision laws in this area I need to abide by. Not to many people know what they are looking for & I have a gaurentee that this thing will pass when done.

How long to do all this? What I am getting at is you should go down there every day and take pics if you can.

I am curious about the advantage of using a torque converter from a 4.3 L.

The man said it would take him about a week. I'm expecting a couple weeks though.
Figure that all the parts hae to be ordered & I am not sure how long it takes jasper to ship a engine.

As for taken pics. I really wish I could. Unfortunatly I work away from home & am only here on the weekends. Goes back to my statement that I have more money then time. When I am here I spent the time with my kids.

But then again, with the whole powerplant & drivetrain being replaced/rebuilt it will gaurentee low miles for me.

This is just a start of a series of stages.

Next it will be suspension
then body & paint (sub-frame connectors will be done at the body shop)
And the final will be the interior

I'm expecting close to 20 grand when all is done. That includes all the cost of hiring the work out.
Is the car worth that much? Not really, but I love the car & after it is all done, I will know exactly what I have. Gives me more piece of mind in the end. If I paid 7-8 grand for a immaculate third gen, I will still not know what I have.

From what I have read here on the site, it gives about the same effect as a 2200 stall coverter.

if you have the money and since everything is going to be removed and rebuilt, why not go with a smaller, better, higher stall torque converter, i say around 2400 rpms

I would go for the 92 L98 replacement engine. You'll get better heads and cam over the 350tbi police engine. You'll also need larger injectors, and a better intake wouldn't hurt either (Edelbrock Performer w/erg and a tbi adapter plate).

Is this a performance 350 or just a stock replacement? Also, you might want to check out http://www.goautocenter.com for some engine options. I got my 300hp+ motor from there. I haven't had emissions yet, but it shouldn't be an issue with some more chip tuning.

I've got some 65# injectors on the way, and a cop car chip that I've been holding onto for a while now, so I might just drop that in there when it's time for the test. I computer compatible cam from Crane and emission legal Trickflow heads shouldn't put me in the dog house with the gov't.

Car: yy wife, crazy.

Axle/Gears: 8.5", 3.42
Just a word from the wise.....

Unless you've had experience with the PowerTrax, I'd shy away from that and get an LSD from Eaton or Auburn. Especially if the car is going to see a lot of road time.

The PowerTrax works real well, but almost too well. Even the "quiet" one isn't quiet. And when accelerating through a curve or turn the rear end wants to push the car straight. It's a little annoying after a while.

The engine was choosen to be the 91 Caprice LTZ police version from Jasper. After all is said & done it should be turning 250-275 HP.

After the warrenty expires, then I'll look at different cams & heads. Please remember I'm trying to upgrade to the 350, boost my power level, and still try to stay econimical.

No longer getting the Walbro fuel pump. I have choosen a holley to be put in there now.

Tranny is still being rebuilt with the Vette Servo & a shift kit is going to be added.

The 2400 stall convertor was choosen now mainly because it was a few dollar more then the torque convertor for the S-10.

And since everything is going to be removed from the engine compartment, it is going to be sandblasted & repainted. Also all the engine brackets are going to be sand blasted and painted.

Flowmaster headers with 3" exaust all the way back to match.

I have checked into the 65# injectors. From what I have been told is that they are rated for extreme high HP engines & will drown this little 350 I'm putting in.

Powertrax is my choice. I have had one in a old malibu of mine & loved it. I now what it in my Camaro. I have never had a problem with them making noise & this paticular carrier is suppose to unlock around corners.
A gear change is possible also right now. I will decide on that later this week. If I change gears, I will either go to the 3:42 or the 3:73.

This car is not going to be seeing much road time. I've owned it for nearly a year now & have only put about 1000 miles on it. I drive my truck during the week & on the weekends I try to be on the Motorcycle (weather permitted).

There are several other things that is going to be getting done. Mostly minor stuff that was neglected by the previous owner.

This penny is starting to turn to GOLD. Just what is being done now is going to cost a small fortune. You really don't want to know, since it is all hired out.

Now I'm starting to think & get ideas about Phase 2

parks, you might want to check again into the 65# injectors. If you didn't specify that you needed tbi injectors then I'm sure mpfi injectors were probably what they thought you were talking about. The 65# injectors were stock on the police engines. You have to remember that you only need two injectors not eight. Also I don't think Flowmaster makes headers, you might have meant Flowtech.

Your right. It was flowtech. I was extremely tired when I posted that.
