My 91 RS is my daily driver, 178,000 miles and counting. It's my only car right now, so I drive it day or night, rain or shine. I have a decent amount of mods, but nothing too serious, mainly just an open element, Edelbrock intake, SFCs, and 3.42 gears. Currently working on suspension and full exhaust.

I driven mine almost every day since i've gotten it. However i dont take it to do little bitchwork and stupid errands. So since april i've put about 1,900 miles on it. Its gettin covered for the winter too. So its like a 'semi-daily' driver.

I drive mine a lot, but not daily, it's turning more and more into something for just racing, but I still love romping around on the weekends.

I haven't driven my car in 2.5 years. Mainly that is because it is in a million pieces right now . I used to drive it as a daily driver in the summer but it got old. I was too concerened about where I parked it and where it sat out as well as what iu had to drive over. The 21k miles on the clock didn't exactly make me want to drive it everywhere. I would love to have another one to drive around town though. I use to get 31mpg on the highway when it was stock.

i drive mine too...it has open element...no emissions ..advanced timing...more fuel pressure(per thirdgen thread) and a 305, t5 so gas mileage is great...but i need posi for winter..hehe...I live close to an 1/8 mile track and i drive it there too...with those minor mods it does 10 seconds with almost 200,000 miles on it...

Mine is a daily driver also. It is the only car that I can drive because the old lady drives the suburban with all the rugrats. I have a 91 rs with 350 tbi. I have headers, exhaust, openelement, deleted egr and A.I.R., subframe connectors, and other suspension mods. It drives great for me.

I was just varifying that it was an 1/8 mile track. I was hoping you weren't suggesting that you ran 10's in the 1/4 like some other idiots on this board do. I didn't mean to suggest anything else other than clarification. You are very wise to keep racing on the track

I drive mine daily, all of my "mods" are what I like to call "comfort mods" I suppose; Things that make a daily driver more comfortable:

Recharged Air Conditioning Freon
Installed XM Satellite Radio
Upgraded to CD Headunit over stock stereo
Upgraded Speaker System
Limo Tint on all windows except windshield

Stuff like that. The only "performance" mod is an open element, but I still don't like driving this car with the A/C on, it sucks up gas so bad that it's not even funny. I have doubts sometimes about driving this car and there's no way I can survive in this car with this weather with no A/C, i've been tempted to sell it sometimes and not bother, but I still love it and don't think i'll be getting rid of it.

If this car didn't suck up so much gas it would be perfect: It's loud, low to the ground, the seats are super comfortable, Front seat space is awesome, car is made of 90% pure steel, and it gets everybody's attention even though it's a 15 year old car that most people see every day on the road.

If you drive your project like I do everyday, my best advice is to stay away from any poly bushings. Not needed and way too harsh for daily driving. . . and while I'm on it:

Sportlines will kill your front end

Nothing more than 3.4x gears

Nothing more than a 2000 stall converter

Nothing bigger than 18" wheels

Insanely loud exhaust killed me on my last one as well, droned everything out, including other people in the car.

These are just some of the things that I've experienced in the past that I regret. To each his own I guess, but these are just my recommendations.

Right on with the exhaust. My last truck had a pretty radical 355 carbed motor with longtubes straight back to flowmaster 40's and was insanly loud. It sucked to try to listen to the radio or talk to anyone. LOL!! Just so you all know that truck caught on fire in Dec. 04

I agree. I have the PST polygraphite kit and poly swaybar links.
Add stiff springs to the mix and you kill ride quality. Esp when cold out. In the winter it is very uncomfortable and noisy. I miss the F41 springs sometimes.
Other than that the LO3 T5 is the best daily driver for my needs.
Reliable, 30+ mpg, decent torque, comfort, plus great grip for safety. I am very happy with mine and drive it 365.

Recomended daily driver mods:
Amplified stereo and sub to drown out noises and loud honduhs
Cold air intake and complete exhaust for power + mileage
short throw shifter
rewire all accesories to your specs
245s

Recommendations for daily driver:

Replace bushings with OEM parts

Better stereo and speakers (sub not necessary)

4th gen leather interior

Replace weather-stripping, especially if ya have a t-top

Full exhaust, but quiet. I suggest the Dynomax cat-back.

Dynamat the floor pan and doors

im building a 350 for mine because mine has 200k miles on the 305...the reason i chose a 350 is hopefully the power to weight ratio will save gas with my t5...im not going overboard on mods to the 350(mostly stock componets with better intake and exhaust flow)and using thetbi to boot..

The AC on these cars could be more efficient. I have to use double the throttle with it on. wasteful.
One day I will do away with gasoline all together.
I want a super fast, silent, and fuelless RS.

My Camaro is for the most part, my daily driver. I drive it to work exclusively, but it is 43 highway miles one-way, so its not much wear and tear. I work 12-hour shifts so I only work 4 days one week and 3 days the next. On my off days I drive around my new GTO...can't wait to get 500 miles on it so I can open her up!

Mine is a Daily Driver, looking into possibly doing a 350 TBI conversion. So far the only performance mod is an open element filter. As far as comfort mods include a recharged AC system hitting 39 degrees, CD/Cassett/FM/AM radio, new speakers.

Funny someone mentioning moonshine, im currently studing on how to make moonshine fuel. Hey its georgia somehwere someone at least one person has to run a camaro on moonshine.

Do the 350 swap guys. I can tell you and I am sure that many others will tell you it is such an awesome feeling driving a third gen with a 350 over a 305.

I have been driving mine daily for the last couple of months, as my daily driver has been having one issue after another. (this week it is a cracked radiator, fubar'ed injector, and plug wires. . Kids, do not buy German cars, unless you want a really nice car, that doesn't go anywhere.)

It really isn't all that bad, even as modified as my car is, it is actualy not bad to drive, sure it is loud, shakes, and has a super-firm ride, but I am actualy really enjoying getting to drive her this much. last, i put maybe 800 miles on her, in a whole year. After this much time and effore, I should be enjoying it more than that.

As to the 350. THe 4" bore motors are the way to go, granted I'm going with the 327 route, and then blowing massive amounts of air in. The 305 really isn't a motor to spend to much money on, Beyond tossing a cam, and maybe some better heads, that you can later use on a bigger motor, it just isn't really worth trying to go all out on a 305.

I used to drive my TBI everyday. Got pretty good gas mileage, and was a fun driver after did all my suspension mods and swapped in a T-56, but got tired of how slow it was.
Im in the process of swapping in a 350 (with a lot of goodies).
These cars are by no means performance vehicles in stock trim.

Right on Dewey. I feel the same way. I put like about 20K a year on mine so it gets driven like crazy. It has been from Cali to Florida 7 times in the past 3 years. I love driving her.

Cali do the 350, you won't be sorry. Even when I had a 305 I did not think it was that slow. I mean sure in a straight line is wasn't that fast, but through the turns and the corner there was no other car that I would rather be driving.

But the 350 give me wood!!

im in the planning stage of my 350 build. me being 17 with a crappy job, its gonna take a little while. my buddies who have been racing for years, have explained and calculated costs for me. the only thing is my father, who thinks he knows about sbc's, thinks i should spend $1600 on a 290hp crate. but im with you guys about the 350.

That would be my recommendation. No labor but the install, maybe some 1.6RR's and you'll be in that 310hp range which is great for a daily driver. Or maybe I'm just getting older.

Most of the numbers I've seen are around a 15hp pickup, but you also have to remember that almost all of these crate motors are going to be underrated. Companies don't want to send out engines that aren't making those numbers because they can get into trouble.

Oh ok. What do you think the horsepower gain would be on a L98? No aftermarket cam.

One more hand in the crowd

Daily driver, the only way to drive a fun car. Now my car had an engine rebuild awhile back and i wanted to run the 305 still so i just threw in a vortec cam some flat tops and edelbrock headers. Only problem is i had to get this engine from a rebuilder. I've more than my share of 350s and 305s in racing and i wish i had the time to build it myself. But being a daily driver i had no time. But these engines aint made to go fast. So if it don't go in a straight line. better make sure you can keep that pedal to the metal for cornering. Sure the Poly bushings everywhere has made it now possible for me to find every loose bit on my car. And the stiff springs. Are harsher shocks. and the rear end out of a V-6 car. and SFCs, STB, and Wonderbar. Z-28 swaybars, in My RS Convert with a Five speed. But Try this one on for size. Polished Z-28 alloys with 265s on all four corners. Say hello to taking doubling every corner sign speedlimit. Maybe even more. I just got the new tires and haven't autocrossed it yet. And as for the damn Ricers. They kiss my taillights. Yea they spend their money on the go fast in a straight line part. But man if you ever want to really **** em off. Go up highway 18 right past Crestline and really pour on the coals. And watch as they no longer appaer in your mirror. i have yet to put in my 1le front sway bar. im hoping the bigger bar will tighten the car because if i could just put the power down. Yea thats right i still spin the damn rear tires in corners. Stupid 1 wheel squeal. Oh yea And im pretty certain that the flamed paint job gives a half second. Or maybe it was just the fact that when i painted i added the SFCs STB and wonderbar and chip. HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Yea and the crate engines ever hear of the Underrated ZL1 engine they put in the corvettes back in the 60s. Said it only made 400 horsepower with 12 to 1 compression and a cam that pushes the pusrods through the hood. Yea right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Try 572 horsepower in a street corvette.
