350 tbi questions
This might belong in the engine swap forum, but I think Im in the right place.
Im starting to plan next years mods(a bit early, I know), and have been running some numbers. My question(s) is, if I get a 350, and use TBI(which is almost certainly what Ill do)what computer, and wiring do I have to have? Im looking at a summit racing 350($1600, for a 290 hp 350cid), and have a friend who will give me a 454 TB. I can get an intake, and use my accessories, and all. My biggest concern is the computer. I know itll take some tuning, and Im in the process of gathering the stuff to do that. I just got my laptop working, and hopefully in the next few weeks, I can start data logging. But, if I use the 454 tb, can I use my L03s computer, and wiring, and just tune it? And how complex will it be for a newbie tuner to work out kinks in a 350 with a 305 computer, and a 454 tb? Im sure I read itll work, with tuning. And I know Ill need a fuel pump too. But, what do I need to be aware of, as in hidden costs, to make the change? Injectors(upgrade?) sensors, VATS? Thanks, and sorry if this is a popular topic. I search here all the time, but havent seen anything to specifically answer these questions.

LOL - well I'm not good enough to do chips, I'd have the burner worn out and own stock in the chip company over in Hong Kong or whereever. The openings on the ECM socket, you could drive a truck through LOL.
Seriously though, when I sat down and budgeted my project I figured nowhere near enough money for the little stuff like plug wires, gaskets and hoses and for big stuff that needed replacing to bolt onto the new motor. For example I got my TBI from a junkyard and wound up re-gasketing it after having an injector problem. Then I just couldn't justify old hoses and belts on a new motor. Then my used distributor was on the way out and giving me problems so I plopped down cash for a new one with cap and rotor. Then when I looked closely at my front shocks (with the motor out) they looked bad so I replaced them.... The nickel and dime stuff is really what drove my costs up.

Ive got a friend looking into building an engine locally. Im wanting about 300 hp, to start with, but my biggest gripe with the summit engine, is it doesnt have forged pistons. And I plan on nitrous in the future. Anyway, I have most of the penny and dime stuff on my car now. I keep it in real good shape, with belts, hoses, and stuff. I just replaced the wires, and all. Im guessing, other than an intake, fuel pump and tb gaskets, I have it covered. I hope. Ill start data logging whenever we get off 60 hr work weeks, and start looking into the chip burning equipment. Im just really worried about the chip burning on the weird combo, with little to no experience on a normal combo.
