Think I hit the fuel pump wall

Ok guys, HELP....took about 150 to 200 pounds off the car, under what it was last week at the track....New wires, new plugs, and good gas (104) The car ran slower by a tenth of a second, and I lost 2 MPH on the big end....I think I was runnig out of gas, im not sure if its the fuel pump not being able to supply the fuel, or the regulator needing to be made adjustable....My 60' times were close to the same (2.0-2.109) It seemd as tho it just layed down at the end....Ideas anyone????? I know it is hard to say without looking at it, but I am open to suggestions....I thought for sure I would hit hi 14's lastnight, but instead I went the other way 15.461.........Thanks for any help.....Tom

Toss a fuel pressure gauge on it, that will tell you for sure. if it you hold costant pressure you should be fine.

Why are you runnign 104 octane? on these cars, that is probably going to hurt performance in it self.

Well I dont see how it could hurt performance, but I just put it in........For the hell of it........Will do on the fuel pressure gauge...I guess im gonna have to figure out the correct way to put it in line......BTW, that will be before the regulator right??????? How do you know what you regulator is putting out??????????? Thanks Dewey316

You put it in front of the regulator. The regulator is on the return side behind the injectors, it keeps everything in front of it at the correct pressure.

the higher the octane, the slower the gasoline burns

Higher octane fuel is only efficient with more advanced ignition timing ...

Well that true of the higher octane, but im sure that wasnt the problem..I am going to try to d a pressure check ASAP.Thanks all....

I am pretty sure that it WAS the problem. My stockish TBI 350 trucks don't even like 89 octane without loosing power. The factory advance curves just won't support any more octane than that. Now bump the base timing 6-8* and run the 104 octane and things will be different.

Ive got alot of base timing now, as I like the throttle response....Might try some more next week....Only got 1 run because of the "pinks" thing they had going on...got to do no tuning...Is there a thread anywhere about using a fuel pressure gauge???? Have never used one before..........

on ebay they sell fuel pressure tester kits for tbi cars and trucks. it tells you to put it up at the throttle body but i put mine in between where the hard lines that go to the throttle body meet the rubber lines i think they are from the frame. they meet at the right side of the engine bay when looking in right above the power steering. fits perfect in that location and easy to test. well worth the money too.
