Late 92 TBI motors

Does anyone know of or have heard of any late 92 LO3's getting special heads or other parts? I had heard some had special heads and other parts installed at the factory. The reason for this question is I have a 92 305 TBI base Bird (built 8/92) that runs like a scalded dog. I have friends with the same motor that can't touch it and have run with a friend's 92 Formy (305 tpi) and stayed with him the whole way and he couldn't leave me on the open interstate either. I can say with all honesty that there is no way the car only has 170hp and most that have ridden in it agree. I am the 2nd owner (1st was an older lady) and bought it with only 46K miles 9 years ago. (It has 117K now) The only mods are a K&N filter (in the stock breather) and a 2 1/2" cat back with 3" tips, which I added a few years ago and did make a bit of an improvement. It is supposed to have a 2.73 open diff, but I can leave 100' posi marks anytime. Any ideas or knowledge of why it is like this? Thanks

Re: Late 92 TBI motors

some tbi 305 s in 92 did get the left over tpi heads as the lb9 was to be discontinued some got the 350 cams
it all depends it would have to be one of the last produced that year
ive also heard some 350s got the vette heads aswell has the vetts cast runners

but you could always take a look behind the valve cover to make sure its a 305 and not a 350

a tbi 350 looks the same as a tbi 305other then the size stamp

Re: Late 92 TBI motors

I will check on the stamp. I have just been going by my VIN so far. It is for sure one of the last 92's built. I have a build date of 8/92, which is the end of yearly production, as new models are introduced in Sept. I have had many other hp cars, including a 78 TA with a 71 455 in it, so I know power, and I can tell you it sure as hell is not a 170hp motor. Anyway, thanks for the input, as I knew I had heard about the factory slipping in some different heads, etc. I also heard that about the vette heads and runners.
