EBL AND THE QUEST FOR MPG
The title pretty much says it........with the price of gas as it is......record high and it goes up every week here lately I believe that this is a subject that is going to be almost as much on some peoples minds as performance. I did a search and did not come up with a thread with this specific goal in mind. If I have missed it I apologize. With that being said let's look at this as an extension of the tuning with the EBL thread but specific to getting the most for your gas dollar. I am posting it it here in the TBI forum as I believe that it will not get lost and get more interest here.
To start things off some people drive their EBL cars daily. I do and it has never ran better. The mileage is not where it used to be with the stock engine with only headers and full flowing 3" exhaust, better flowing breather, 3:08 gears [stock ratio], and stock ecu.. See my sig for present mod's as most things are there. I do not know how much the 3:73 gears affect the mpg but I do try to limit speed on the interstate. [65mph@2000 rpm].
I have read where some people have been able to get very good mileage even with a stock tbi computor but with similar mod's to mine. Dewey comes to mind for one. With Rbob's code we should be able to top those? I would think so.
What are you guys getting that are running the EBL and what did you do to optimize your mpg?

Re: EBL AND THE QUEST FOR MPG
I'd like to hear some first-hand experience here too from the EBL pros. I know I just went through all my Hiway mode settings to make sure I liked where and when it was turning on/off. I think I set it to go on around 40mph I think and Kept the AFRs what they were stock on the EBL, it's just a difficult thing to test AFRs for best mileage, because I don't want to drive around for no reason testing them, hence wasting gas, kind of defeats the purpose.

Re: EBL AND THE QUEST FOR MPG
Jim from what I can remember is that my engine did not like the stock ebl lean settings for crap. I'm just not sure how much to change them and how to balance the spark tables with the leaner settings and not damage the engine.
Is it a lost cause because of my gearing? How much affect does the 3:73 gears have on the mpg? I would think that the 3.73's would not be that much worse than Dewey's 3.42's and he says that he has gotten a best of 32 mpg on a road trip. My car and his are very similar IIRC.
Anyone else getting high 20's and low 30's on the highway?

Re: EBL AND THE QUEST FOR MPG
There is some good info in this thread:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...nsumption.html
Before starting to tune the lean cruise mode the regular mode tuning needs to be decent. Then move on to leaning out the mix and playing with the hiway SA.
RBob.

Re: EBL AND THE QUEST FOR MPG
Thanks for the link RB. I missed that while being away last summer and I only searched for EBL titled threads
Looks like good reading and thanks for the tips. I was pretty sure that one needed to have the "regular" tuning decent before starting lean tuning.

Re: EBL AND THE QUEST FOR MPG
Ok.....after looking at things a bit how much do the transients like AE AND PE have to do with the scheme of things as far as mpg?
