1988 Camaro 305 L03
Hey, i just bought a 88 camaro base model with the 305 Lo3. I heard its not the greatest but i just have a couple of questions because im not familiar with the engine. ok first, How how hot should it run when fully warmed up, and what is the ideal oil pressure around that temp. and where is the fuel filter located. and the car is throttle body so would i be able to change out the stock aircleaner and snorkle and put on like a jegs chrome airfilter? and if so would it gain any Hp? and did the rears have posi? or limed slip? and what are some realy cheap and simple upgrades to gain hp? even if its 5-10 it helps. I posted a thread in the exhaust forum about a 80 series flowmaster muffler, would that give any hp, and would it be loud, im guna eventually put a high flow cat, would that give hp?
Thank you So much for helping me out, like i said im not familiar with the Lo3 at all.

Although pretty much everything original but the body and rims are gone, my car started out the same as yours. Its likely 2.73s with an open rear. The fuel filter is under the car by the rear drivers side wheel. Make sure you use flare nut wrenches to loosen it, or youll likely round the nuts off as theyre rusty and usually on there pretty tight.
The biggest restrictions on that motor are the intake and exhaust. The exhaust should be replaced entirely from the heads to the rear bumper. Even with a better muffler, you wont see much gains due to the manifolds and 2-1/4" pipes. The cheapest way to go is with the flowmaster single outlet 3" TPI catback and a set of headers. Either hooker or edelbrocks will do. That alone should help the power quite a bit. After that, a better intake and tuning would be in order.
The next most restrictive things are the cam and heads, but you cant replace those untill you've got a good foundation for a build up.
