Need help hooking up EGR system and MAP sensor to throttle body ports
I have an 83 camaro with crossfire, rebuilt the engine and transmission, beautiful ride, I love my car! I haven't been able to hook up the EGR system so I have vacuum caps on all the posts on both throttle bodies. I am getting gas out the one that is supposed to go to the map sensor. Its confusing for me to figure out where to hook up to the map sensor, do you have any advice? Alot was done to the car before I got it and the EGR can and the missing solenoid and MAP location are different than what the diagram shows. Any input would be helpful.

ok
I am not sure what diagram you are referring to for hooking up the vacuum port on the throttle bodies. Each TB has three vacuum ports on the rear. For both TB's the center port is plugged with a cap. On the passenger side TB, from the back of the TB the left (driver's) side port goes to the EGR vacuum control solenoid. This solenoid mounts on s stud bolt just to the side of the TB. The stud bolt is part of the bolts that hold down the top cover. the a separate vacuum hose leaves the solenoid and connects to the EGR. The right (passenger)side port connects to the the AIR valve mounted on the right front of the motor.
On the driver's side TB, from the back of the TB, the left (driver's) side port goes to the MAP sensor. The right (passenger) side port goes to the Thermac Valve via the underside of the air cleaner.
I am also attaching a photo of the vacuum diagram from my 82 CFI. It is the same for your car. I assume this is the diagram you are referring to in your post.
If the TBs that are on the car now have more than three vacuum ports on the rear side of them, they are the incorrect TB for the CrossFire system.

Re: Need help hooking up EGR system and MAP sensor to throttle body ports
Thank you! Since posting my question, I found the problems. 1) I have the EGR system bipassed currently, can't find an egr system with the seperate solenoid to run it the way the diagram says to and in bipassing it, I overlooked a vacuum port that didn't get capped off. Will know today for sure if that resolves the problem (just found it last night and will test drive it this morning). Also, I had the adjustment for the TBI synch to high and it was getting too much gas. I adjusted and capped the port and the idle dropped down where it should be, it was idling really high in Park (15-1700 rpms) and drive idle was about 9-800 rpms, now its 11-1200 rpms in park and holding steady at 800 rpms in drive...my test drive today will confirm if this resolves it. Its nice to find someone else with one of these cars! Its so rare to find them still running. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me out, even finding the problem, your information helped me understand the set up better, the way you explained it.

Re: Need help hooking up EGR system and MAP sensor to throttle body ports
Good to hear that you may have solved at least one of your problems. Yea, the EGR solenoid is no longer available unless you find a CFI car in the junk yard. Not an everyday occurrence any more.
Your idle seems a bit high. The shop manual calls for 500 rpm in park and drive. I seem to remember that my car idled at 750, but its been two years since I have driven it. It needs new gas lines from the fuel filter to the TBI and the return line from the TBI. I am trying to keep the car original and I haven't ordered the replacement parts yet. I am the original owner of this 82 CFI. It has always been a second car, so it is still in pretty good shape.
Do you have the 83 shop manual? It is a very helpful book, with quite a bit of info. I bought mine when I bought the car. If you don't have one, here is a link t one on ebay that is not too expensive. Folks are asking anywhere from $24. to $70. for a used one. This one is used, but appears (from the cover shot anyway) to be in good shape. I have no connection to this seller, just passing on some info you might find useful.

Post us some pictures of your ride, and the engine compartment.

As far as the EGR solenoid I don't see why you couldn't just wire up any ported egr solenoid, the computer just sends an on/off signal.(just a thought)
This site has a lot of cfi infohttp://www.thecubestudio.com/Crossfi...estoration.htm Also there is a ton of Vette cfi info on the web. the info will apply to your car. they are the same, I am running a 84 vett ecm and chip in my 82 t/a (the original ecm had a current draw that was killing the battery and I had this ecm laying around)with no other modifications and have no trouble
