Cam for Heavy Caprice 355 TBI?

Hey guys I know this is a camaro forum and my ole 87 Z28 is long gone but I still have the 355 engine I had in it along with the PTC Raptor 700R4 all from circa 1999-02?

I have a family now and bought a pristine 92 Chevy Caprice TBI 305 car, bone stock for now.

I already have that '77 model 4-bolt main flat tappet 355 with flat top pistons and vortec heads that have been modified to handle .525 lift, self aligning comp magnum roller tip rockers that are 1.52 ratio, long tube headers for B-body, edelbrock perfromer RPM (not Air Gap) vortec intake, carb-tbi adapter, a bored 46mm tb, 454 injectors, 18 lbs of fuel pressure via a spring, and a TPI fuel pump.

Trans is a Raptor 700R4 from PTC with a 2800 stall convertor. Shifts very very firm, I love it!

My question is the current cam is way to wild for TBI ( comp cams 292/292 .501/.501 very radical), what cam would you suggest with the TBI and the convertor I have and weight of the car compared to a camaro? The convertor actually stalls with street tires to about 2100-2200 rpm. The rear is gonna have 3.42 gears installed in it soon as I get them. Its currently got a 2.56 gear LOL. I want to basicly make a nice cruiser I can take the family out in, with similar performance to the stock 96 Impala SS I used to have, but want to keep the TBI for ease of swap and good driving characteristics. Is this possible? Goal is like 330-350 FWHP.

Thanks,
Seth Robbins

I recommend EBL. Some guys have tuned some fairly wild cams with it.

I recommend the compu-cam series of camshafts. Something with duration like 210/220 max. They will work well with your fuel inj. car. Also a custom tune/chip.

Re: Cam for Heavy Caprice 355 TBI?

Well with all my research and suggestions, its looking like this cam may be my best compromise, what do you guys think? Id like to find a cam with more lift on the exhaust, even more than this one, inorder to better match the flow of the Vortec heads as they are a little weak on the exhaust side.
