Tricks to pass emmissions

Last time I tried to go through emmissions, I made out well except for HC. The limit is 144, and I was at 376. That's with a cat and CO at .01. Now I tried going through the normal way, now I need to pull sometricks it seems. Will this work:
1/4 tank of 89 octane fuel, ? bottles of dry gas, and a gallon of Coleman's campfire fuel?

My cam is a LPE 219/219 cam at 112 LSA. The type of dyno I have is the kind where they put the car on a roller dyno going 25 MPH and they hook a sniffer to the tailpipe at that speed. That's it.

i highly doubt any of those tricks would work. About the only thing i can think of to get the HC lowered would be to have the engine HOT while you're testing....the hotter the better.

OR...try slipping the guys behind the machine a 20, that always works here in ohio...

I tried running it hot already, that didn't work. And bribery around here is pretty illegal. Anyone else?

I just passed emissions yesterday. I leaned out my carb, ran 87 octane cause if fires off better than high octane. I have headers and pretty much stock exhaust with one cat. You could also try putting in a couple bottles of heat (rubbing alcohol) in your tank right before you go in. Here is a pick of my emissions.

Are you running an adjustable fuel pressure regulator? If you are try lowering the fuel pressure. The less fuel the better. Try pulling out your air cleaner also.

I live in Southington so I have to go through the same test you do. I'm lucky cause I'm still running the CC Q-jet so I just crank down the mixture screws.

I checked out your web site your car looks sweet!

Well, I don't know about a "trick", but how bout some mechanical work?

High HC usually means that something is wrong with the combustion cycle. Your fuel isn't being burnt all the way. Check for a misfire. One misfiring cylinder can make as much emissions as a couple "normal" cars can!

You seem to be running lean. If you had high HC and high CO, that would indicate you're not getting enough Oxygen. Oxygen helps convert CO into CO2, which is allowed. But not enough oxygen leaves you with CO.

Check things like timing (set to stock), ignition wires (check with multimeter), crossfire (run the engine in a dark area and look for blue sparks coming from the plug wires and don't get caught in the running engine), condition of cap/rotor, and condition of spark plugs (gap opened up? plugs dirty/fouled/broken?).

You might want to replace the fuel filter, and clean the throttle body. I've also used "Guaranteed to Pass", it's sold for $6 in Pep Boys around here.

OK, the motor is not dirty. Everything on it is brand new. New plugs, new optispark, new wires...the motor is a brand new GM LT1 block, new ported heads, LPE219/219 cam, and a new catco cat. I think I'm running a little lean around 15:1. My CO is nearly non-existant (.01 out of a possible .92), and my NO is around 600 out of about a 1000.

It remains, high HC is still a result of unburned fuel...
I'm not jerkin your chain but you mentioned "new"
plugs and wires...
I'd say go over it again... or better yet have a buddy
go over it... sometimes you just can't see the obvious...

I looked at your site ...
any chance you have a leaky injector ?

My problem was NOx so I cranked up the EGR by installing a larger poppet gaurd in the valve and I passed with very few NOx... but my hydrocarbons were right at the limit. So, if your NOx emissions are low and HCs are high, I suggest backing off on the EGR a tad; you'll probably still pass if you have a good 3" high flow cat even if you took off the EGR valve entirely (the cats account for 2/3 of the NOx emissions anyway). Just a thought based on my experience...

OK,I passed with three bottles of dry gas mixed with about 5 gallons of fuel in the tank. Not too shabby :-)
