What's the deal with the "new" Shell gasoline?
My local Shell station has signs up all aroun that say, "Stop in and try the NEW(!?) Shell Gasoline!"
What's the deal? To me, gas has always been gas, I get whatever is convenient, I don't look at the price, and if I get 87 or 92 octane... it's all the same to me, if I'm feeling financially secure I get 89 just because I like to tell myself it's refined better, if I don't feel financially secure, I get 87 and don't regret a thing...
Either way, I've never gotten gas that makes me say "Wow, this is good gas!"

wasn't shell bought over by some nwe company called BP, which stood for "Better Petroleum" or was that some other company. as for the different octane levels i def do notice a difference in the premium and regular varities, my car seems to run better on premium giving me a smoother idle and better gas mileage than regular, but then again i don't feel bad if i put in regular

"New! Improved!" Yeah right.
Chances are, all the gasoline in your area comes from the same 1 or 2 or 3 refineries, and is all the same stuff, with just slightly different additive packages included into the tanker truck as they fill it on its way to deliveries.
Royal Dutch Shell (based i nthe Netherlands) bought the rights to market under the Texaco name, much as BP (British Petroleum) bought the Amoco name and Exxon (USA) bought the Mobil name. It's all marketing, the product is essentially the same.

I think it was Shell and Texaco, and BP and Amoco, since Texaco's will accept Shell cards (and vice versa), and BP now says it's fueled by Amoco.
