Went to the junkyard today and Found nothing

My buddy and I went to all the local yarda around here.I have been looking for a manual steering box for an s-10.A disk brake third gen rearend. Some z-28 wheels and ground effects and power hatch.

I found nothing. All the cars most of them had Where to nice and they wanted to sell them whole.Or they wanted a alot of money for some of the stuff.Like 500 bucks for ground effects!I can buy a z-28 minus the engine and tranny for that.

What has happened to junkyards?I remember when U could walk around the yard yourself and look for the stuff by yourself not with someone from the yard. And who cares if U look in a different kind of car than what U told them.I know they are trying to make money off of this but out of t6 yards I will only go back to one.And that one doesn't even have any third gens I just enjoyed the owners campany.

How are the boneyards around where U live?

Also what Code rearend am I loooking for I want a disk brake rearend with around 3.73 or lower gears. And did they amke a manual hatch. My whole setup is missing I really don't want a power hatch.

Thanks

I hear you !!! I havn't been to one in over 10 years, and last Saturday I went looking for a 2 series Posi. hahaha...

Out of 25 plus cars I looked at, not one had a posi. However one yard did, and they wanted 300 bucks !!!!!!!!! I said are you ****ing kidding me, I can get a new Auburn for that.

Hate to say it, but alot of are 3rd gens are ending up being crushed. I don't know if it's this Import hype or what?

The biggest yard I went to, and this yard is hudge (10 or so acres) and it had maybe five, thats right five 3rd gens in it.

Better off buying new aftermarket parts, then paying what some of these yards want. Granted the big lot would have only charged me 40 bucks for the posi, but they didn't have one though

sorry I don't have a full list of axle codes

Here in PA they are a dime a dozen. I went to a u pull it last month, got a 3.23 rear for 20 bucks, A pair of glass T tops for $30 with a bag, and an ECM with a hypertech chip in it for $7. I couldn't walk 50 feet without finding another third gen. It's kind of sad to see them all though.

You ever try this?

http://www.car-part.com/

I got a 28 spline axle from one yard listed on that site for $8.

For all your used auto parts needs check here http://uneedapart.com/ I used this for a rear axle/control arm for my wife's nissan when it spun a bearing and tried to chew the axle in half. I found a few wrecking yards that had what I wanted (they contact you) and got the part in great shape for $65, delivered. The dealer wanted over $400 for a new one.

well i know the feeling here in rust bucket north east ohio,, yards are way over priced eccept for the few i have gotten to know ,,i just wish i had the place to put a junk yard and make it all third gens as i am forseeing i nice little niche in the market ( although i would have it on a well drained cement yard with all the cars 2 foot off the ground on sturdy stands) for convienance lol and ease but as for self extraction of parts you have those people that come ill equipped or under manned and destroy and mangle good parts to get what the need so i would be iffy on that aspect lol

The "folks" from around where I used to live had a serious racket on junk parts.

First, they were all tied via network to other junkyards in the region, so you really couldn't call around for the cheapest price.

Second, you couldn't walk through their yard. You requested a part and they pulled it. Get this, you paid a $75 non-refundable fee up front before you ever saw what they tried to stick you with.

Third, the good-ole-boy rule was in effect. I called and got a $200 price quote, my buddy with a hometown southern drawl called a few days later and got a $175 quote, then my wife (also southern) calls a week later and gets the SAME part for $150. Just for S-G's I called back right after she did and guess what I was offered......$200!!

Now aint that some $h!t

Theres only one junkyard over by where I live, its just a pull-a-part, you can go out into the yard alone, pull the parts alone, and then bring it up to the front building where you pay for it. as for the 3rd gens in the yard theres a good amount but they're all stripped beyond belief and we get about one 3rd gen a month, its good and bad, it means another 3rd gen off teh road and it also means 4 85-87 IROC rims for 150 bucks

Damn, there are tons of wrecked third gens where I live, which is about a 30 minute drive from this place called Surrey. It's like the f-body/******/white trash capital of the entire world.

I managed to pull a 3.23 posi aluminum drum rear for $125 canadian, wahooo.

I've had decent luck at boneyards, at "pull yur own" yards that is. I just call all the boneyards in my are once a month or so and ask if they got any third gens in recently. I've gotten a nearly complete set of ground effects this way, as well as almost an entire black interior for my car. What pissed me off though is when an airport bought out a pull yur own yard by my house, which always had decent prices, and i had planned on going back there for for a perfect set of gridded lights and a front clip off an iroc that i had gotten the gfx and interior from. I decided to try to buy some ppl off to let me on the yard a couple weeks later, and all i saw was stacks of crushed cars Now i only got a couple of yards that i can browse around without someone from the yard. Right now I'm having a hell of a time finding hood louvers...
