High Idle Question
Hey guys, I have a slight, yet annoying, problem. The engine in my IROC (383 stroker, TPI, SLP runners, 1,000 cfm TB, and custom chip) seems to idle high until I kick it down. While driving the car, and say i come to a complete stop at a sign or light, it idles around 1,100 rpm's. But if I give it a quick hit to the throttle, it will idle around 750 rpm's. I've tried everything, TPS, checked all of the cables, checked the spring, and even sprayed Liquid Wrench in the sides of the butterflies (by the way, that helped a ton because it would stick before), and nothing seems to help. I was hoping someone had the same problem and could direct me in the right direction. Thanks!

heh, mine did that. i did same stuff too...
finnaly i got pissed off thought carefully... the only reason it would idle high is if extra fuel and air was going in right? well that means 1 of 2 things.
either my idle air control was fuxing with me
or the throttle was sticking open a teeeeny bit.
well, if it WAS the AIC motor thing, it wouldnt kick back down when i touched the gas a little.
so... it must be the throttle right?
ok so i double check triple check... everything looks ok, spring seems to return it just fine...
Just for fun I put a huge super-strong tension spring (from my water pump outlet rubber tube... that big one used to keep the hose from flexing... yeah)
and oh what? yeah buddy, that spring shut the throttle so fast, man. problem gone... of course i replaced the huge spring with a more reasonable one.

Thanks for the reply, but is that the only way I could fix the problem? If the spring is bad or wore out, where can I find a new one? I've called all of the parts stores and they don't have a clue, they show me to the carb return springs, and to be honest, I don't want to hook up a return spring. I'm trying to sell the car, and that's one question I don't want to answer as to why did I put that there.

well a return spring is necessary for most... er... throttle bodys.
maybe a rubber band instead? (joke)
i would at least TRY The spring, see if it fixes your problem. use a carb spring if you have to, be creative with it.
