What does "locking out" the centrifugal advance on a distributor do???
In the instructions for my MSD, it says I can lock out my centrifugal adavance. I was talkin to a guy at the track with a low 12 second third gen and he said he had his timing at 38 degrees locked out. What does all this mean? Is it okay to do for the street? Thanks.

That only works good for race engines, since they usually only run at 3000 RPM and higher where the centrifugal advance would be advanced to the limit anyway. But on a street engine you really need to have it to help the engine at lower RPM's. You can try it, but I bet you will not like the results.
