Which ARP Rocker Studs
Ok, shopping continues on my project.
i need to know which ARP rocker studs i need,
these are on 416s, with 1.52 roller rockers 3/8"
they have 2 options.
134-7101
* Over all stud height: 1.750 in.
* Screw in thread depth: .700 in.
* Adjuster thread depth: .800 in.
* Shank diameter: 3/8 in.
* Base diameter: 7/16 in.
* Not to be used with OEM style self locking nuts.
134-7104
* Over all stud height: 1.895 in.
* Screw in thread depth: .710 in.
* Adjuster thread depth: 1.000 in.
* Shank diameter: 3/8 in.
* Base diameter: 7/16 in.
* With roller rockers
* Not to be used with OEM style self locking nuts.
* These parts have a shank portion under hex to locate guide plate.
now it seems that the second option is for guide plates. now the 416s should have pushrod guides built in right? so do i want the first set, or am i better off getting getting guide plates and the studs with the guide plate locator.
please help.

416s do not come with guide plates.
The 7104 has .200" extra height for a stud girdle. If you're not running one of those, use the 7101.
While you're getting the machine work done to accommodate teh screw-in studs, have the heads set up for guids plates at the same time; they'll need to mill the stud bosses down flat and even, and enlarge the push rod guide holes.

ok that pretty much answers my question, i wasn't sure if i need the 7104 for guideplates, or what was up with that, thanks alot!
now i just have to do the finishing touchs on the port job, and get studs/guideplates and it is off to the machine shop.

Depending on the nature of your project, if you're buying springs and stuff anyway, you might want to go ahead and get the pockets cut for 1.45" springs, and buy those instead; you can use them with any cam & lifters without problems, and that way you'll be already properly set up for higher lift cams or 1.6 rockers. I'd suggest Comp 986 springs, or the equivalent 1.45" spring from any of the other major cam mfrs such as Lunati, Crane, Ultradyne, etc.

i already have valve springs, locks, retainers, shims ect.
i ended up going with the HD Z/28 springs.
i am only going to be running .495 lift
the porting is going pretty good, it is just so time consuming, it is alot more work the an initaly thought.

I sure wouldn't run stock springs with that much lift, especially if it's a modern aggressive cam, and even more especially since it's probably a roller. They will end up causing you trouble.

do you say that because of the diameter of the spring, they are rated to .550 lift.

Because they are basically stock springs. I will not run them. Call your cam mfr and see if they'll warranty the cam if installed with those springs. That will give you an idea why I won't run them.
