330hp/350 in CA?
I was wondering if anyone in california has had any luck getting a 330HO from sdpc to pass emissions. I would like to try using a in a stock tpi system with all of the smog equipment in tact. The car is an 89 iroc with an l98 right now but the engine is toast. I want to put the performance vortec heads and the tpi base on it when it comes out. I would also like to change the cam, i was thinking about the zz9 from tpis. I know i would have to change the lifters too. Can you guys see any flaws with this plan or know of anything more cost effective? I am just looking for any ideas here. It has proven very hard to find a good performance engine for this tpi system and any ideas or recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Well, we still have a visual here where I'm at...and witht he Vortech heads...it won't pass visual due to the way the EGR will have to be hooked up...you cold make it pass the functional EGR test easy enough, but since you'd be modding the OEM smog equipment...you have to be able to show CARB exempt numbers...and no one has a CARB exempt umber yet for a retrofit kit for the EGR.
I think that the concept of 300-325 (maybe more) HP with the TPI is doable and can pass emissions as well, but not with that crate motor...besides, that HP rating is for a carb'ed intake and full length headers...

Thats good to know but very dissapointing. It seems that a 300+ hp engine for an iroc in CA is not easy. Does anyone have any ideas? Maybe there is a good head/intake/cam combo that will make that kind of power and still pass emissions. I hear good things about fast burn and trick flow heads. Anyone know of a tpi base that will pass the visual inspection and will work with some good heads? I dont know enough about matching parts to know what will work so im hoping that you guys will know.

I'm using the L98 heads, and they dont have EGR either. What I'm doing is installing an aftermarket intake and using the Corvette style EGR, over the passenger-side valve cover to the port on the back of the intake. If the smog guy says anything, which I'm sure they wont even notice, I'll just re-certify my car as a 91 Corvette. This will work for all thirdgens except 92, because the 92 Corvette has the LT1.

According to the advertising that I've read,
the Trick Flow 23* head is smog legal with a 50 state carb eo number. CHP got some good numbers out of it on the series about the build up of the "Good Wrench" crate motor.
They were done with a carb, but it should work with tpi.
