Oil smoke? when reved

My car is smoking when I rev it. I have only put about 3000-5000 miles on it since I got it running. It was not new when I put it in though. It had about 50000 on it since it had new bearings and rings and such. When it was running before it was in a truck and had 7? cc heads so the compression was low but now it has 58 cc heads on it so the compression is up some.

I didnt think that the car had beensmoking the whole time I have been driving it since I got it done but couldnt tell you for sure. It doesnt smoke on startup and has new valve seals. One other symptom it had is before I hooked up the pcv it smoked a little out of the breather. I have the pcv valve hooked right to the bottom front port on my quadrajet. Is this how it needs to be hooked up? The thing is, I have the motor running so the dwell on the carb(computer controlled) is at 30 degrees. So the fuel mixture should be right but. It doesnt smoke when idleing or if you hold it up at like 2000 rpms, but if you rev it a bit real quick it puffs a bit. I thought it looked black like it was rich, and we just rebuild the carb(first time doing one of these) and it is possible that there is something wrong with it. So part of what I need to know(I have always been bad about distinguishing oil smoke) is if all oil smoke is that lighter color(suposedly blue but I dont see much blue in it) smoke like you get with valve seals or can it be a more black smoke too. The smoke I am getting seems to be darker.

Ok, here's the deal. I will be putting a my sportsman II heads and performer rpm intake on soon. Does this sound like rings? If so is it something where that is the only thing it could be or do I need to test some stuff? Also I am pretty sure that they are flat tops with 4 valve reliefs in them, but have been told that it wouldnt make since for them to be in that motor. Anyway, I have an LT1 that I will be building eventually and wont be using the stock pistons. Will they work in a 2 piece rear main seal block? how about the rods? If I have to tear it down and they are not flat tops I may use the pistons and rods out of the LT1 if that is possible.

Any help possible would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a little disappointed that no one responded to this thread since I am having the same thing. I hit the gas and it smokes. Not much but I am interested in a solution. Good luck!

ok guys i had the same problem, 305 65k miles on it, wouldnt smoke on startup wouldnt smoke idleing, but if i nailed it it would smoke, bluish grey and you could smell the oil burning, i have a 5 speed so going down a hill in gear with my foot off the gas, i would have a cloud pass me when i stopped at the bottom of the hill, so if your smelling oil burning and you have these symptoms, i tore my block apart and had 2 cracked oil rings and a chewed up piston, rebuilt it and no more oil smell or smoke
