Severe problem! Gotta be someone who can help . . .

Ok, the problems with my car has returned. Hard starting, stalling, very rough running. It's a 91' bird with the LO3. The engine has 105K miles. I've changed the IAC valve, MAP sensor, thermostat, fuel filter, air filter, PCV valve, oil and filter, all recently. If I do manage to get it started, I try and rev the engine to keep it running but when I press the pedal it's like it's not getting any fuel. I've heard that this could be a problem with the fuel pump and that's kinda what I'm leaning towards. What would cause a fuel pump to work great at sometimes and poorly at others? My friend's dad had similar trouble with a TBI truck. At times the fuel pump would only push 3psi, and sometimes it would work fine. I am gonna try and get a hold of a fuel gauge to test mine. Does anybody have any advise or suggestions? If this keeps up, my mom threatened to sale my car and buy me a brand new one but it would probably be something like a dodge neon or some ***** crap. I want to keep my car! The engine is very strong because I had it checked out but it's the little troulbe that's getting me. Thanks in advance.

Just having the same problem with my 89 bird The symptoms are exactly as you describe. :confused Two things that helped mine ( so far) was the O2 sensor was shot and it ruined the Cat and stopped the car. I haven't driven the car for extended time since O2 sensor change, but my car would only die after warming up and then being shut off for a minute or two, i.e. going into the store, etc. driving me nuts...... good luck

since you're thinking it's a bad fuel pump why don't you test it and then post.

Would it be possible that sometimes the fuel pump is pushing only around 3psi and other times it's working normal? I don't even begin to know why this would happen. I'm having trouble getting my hands on a fuel pressure guage so I will find out as soon as I can. SES light isn't coming on either. That could be another problem. It comes on when you turn the key without cranking to let you know it's working. It never showed up again, but when the mechanic checked for codes he got a code 54. Shouldn't this have triggered the light?
