what causes afterfire?
i was wondering what causes the afterfire you hear when you let off the gas. i heard on here that it was the unburt fuel in the exhaust burning in the exhaust, but what actualy causes it? bigger cams? smaller cams? better flowing exhaust? thx.

I know running rich can cause it. mine has done it since the day I got it.
also mine will shoot aprox 4 inch flames out of the exhaust manifolds if I remove the bolts plugging where the air tubes use to be.
gives a nice little show at night lol

Lots of overlap and lots of fuel, high engine speeds, sudden decelleration, make big boom. Sometimes a backfire is caused by cold air entering the hot exhaust system during decelleration.
Check your exhaust system for leaks and maybe that wil fix it.

I'm not sure what causes it but I get several "pops" when I'm downshifting and off the gas. You know, like you do at 95 when you see a cop!! My motor is almost stock but I believe it is running rich.
