Bad Alternator?

Ok here are all the symptoms. First off it doesnt start very easily. If it hasnt been long since it was cranked, it clicks a few times before starting. Every once in a while it wont even want to start at all, the battery doesnt even come on. It has a rough idle that fluctuates every few seconds. When that happens the lights go dim for that second and the rpm gauge goes up a little. It does that every once in a while when im driving and the sound quality on the cd player gets bad and the rpm gauge goes up like 500 rpms for no reason. Also, the car quits every now and then while im braking to either stop or turn. It has quit twice while I was just sitting there, once with the brakes on and once while I was in park. I dont think its the battery because we tried charging it yesterday but it seemed to have a good charge. The battery gauge always looks good except when that stuff happens and the gauge fluctuates a little. Sorry if my post is long. Any ideas on whats wrong? Thanks

Fully charge and load test the battery. If you don't have the tester, many places will test it for free (trying to sell you a battery).

Depending on where you go, the alternator output can also be tested at the same time.

Uh, jump start it? Leave the jumper cables on for a little while and see if you get the same problems.

Could be Fixed

Well we tested the battery and alternator and they were both fine. But I did have a lose battery cable and we tightened that. Now everything seems to be just fine and im not having any more of that trouble. I also plan to clean any corrosion off the cables just to save any future trouble. Thanks for the help.
