serpentine belt conversion problem?
I in the process of converting my '82 Z28 to serpentine belt drive from an '88 5.7 Camaro. Everything went well, until I attempted to connect the heater hose to the water pump. Their is no place to connect the hose to the '88 water pump. What do I do with it? Do I need a special water pump? I'm doing the 1LE front brake upgrade as well.So I was hoping to drive the car on Sunday. Can anybody help? Do I need water pump part #????

Hey there. Did you remember to get a reverse direction water pump. When you convert from v-belt to serp belt the water pumps change too. This may be the cause...?? Im not sure but might help. Good luck!

Did you try the hose that's designed to work on an 88? I'm pretty sure they both use the same radiator, so I don't see why a newer hose won't work.
Otherwise you might be able to get one of those flex hoses as a quick-fix.

Yes,I have a reverse flow water pump. But it has no place to attach my heater hose. Like the pump I took off. Both radiator hoses match up fine. Do I need some different water pump? Thanx,ANDYZ28

My friend Bill Moates at Heritage Chevrolet found the answer. I need the water pump for an '88 Chevy 1500 pickup w/305. It has the extra heater hose fitting. Thanx,Guys

When GM went to the serpentine system, they ran the heater hose to the radiator instead. You MAY have a plugged hole in the radiator to use. Otherwise if you did buy a waterpump for a serpentine F-body(88-92) there is a hole thats plugged, you could use that hole if needed, just buy a fitting.
I converted mine to serpentine, I ended up buying a new parts store radiator because it is the neatest way to go.

Re: serpentine belt conversion problem?
I just bought a 90 Caprice waterpump for a serpentine swap on my 85 Monte Carlo, and it doesn't have the heater hose port. I will check when I get home, but I think my rad has an extra port for this. I am just wondering if I should get a Camaro pump so I can hood up the heater hose to the pump directly, or if I should just run it to the rad as factory serpentine setups did?
