what to do what to do

My car is somehow getting oil on my clutch. My mechanic says that I have other oil leaks also. My goal is to get my car running in a non-destructive way while I save up for a 350TPI build. If I can make it faster without major surgery or tipping into the "might as well" zone that would be cool too.

What are the gaskets and/or seals that have to do with oil? Do you have to take the engine out to do them all? Which company has the good quality parts?

Thanks,

most likely it'd be better to find the location of the leak instead of the shot gun approach to seal replacement.

on the clutch is probably the rear main. Could be a blown intake gasket though, or valve covers, or even the distributor. I would look at the rear main though.

If you have trouble locating the leak, try going to the local car wash and thoroughly cleaning the engine. This means crawling under the car and getting the ENTIRE engine. Then drive it a short bit and look for the leak again.

I agree that te rear main sounds suspect. Kind of a difficult repair for an engine you want to replace anyways.

That's what is coming to my mind. There is a $2000 '88 that supposed to have a a tight TPI 305. I was going to snag it and swap for what I got. Then I was gonna get a 350 block for $350 and turn it into a 6500 rpm screamer. I could then transfer the TPI stuff over (with a SuperRam, of course) and really go OOOOOOOOO...

My whole deal is that I don't think I can maintain the building motivation just watching my car sit. With 133k miles on it an overhaul is not out of the question.

I'm sure the 350 can be a slow, really done right, I've learned a lot build (I'm a neophyte) as long as I can have some fun in the interim.
