A funny and free exhaust upragde!
I was driving along a couple weeks ago and I started to hear this rattling sound. I figured it was the stupid heat shield for the cats again, as that has come loose before. However, before I could get down there to tighten it up, it stopped rattling. Cool, I thought, less work for me. Then I thought "hmm, my car was never this loud before!" Sure enough, I crawl under there, and in the pipe leading from the cats to the muffler, theres a fist sized hole right under the seat. I suppose the rattling was the piece of metal coming off.
Funny as it sounds, my car sounds awesome! I cant believe it. I also have vibrating seats now! The local imports ive come across have taken notice, not that I needed any help defeating them when circumstances dictated such a resolution. So what if I cant hear the radio?! Anyway, just thought it was a funny story, wondering if anyone else has had a similar experiance.

HaHA, this reminds me of a funny story. I was drivng my Tarus SHOand this total nerd blabbing his cell starts revving his fart can equipped civic hatch. I decide to give em a taste, and as I banged into 2nd the pipe slipped completly out just after the cat. The obnoxious noise scared the poor chap so badly he locked up his brakes and screeched to a complete stop in the middle of the road. Oooh, the look on his face was priceless.

Not really an exhaust upgrade when the manifolds and y-pipe are still limiting flow.
I did have a similar experience, except with mine the whole exhaust from behind the cat fell just fell off from rusting through. It sucks.

I can't believe somebody would talk about a leaky rusted-out stock exhaust falling apart, as an "upgrade".... that's just too low-life for belief.
I guess that sort of thing is why these cars have come around to having a "trailer trash" image in the minds of the general public though, from people who behave like that.

Guys, I just like to run the y-pipe delete... Imports run for cover when they hear those LG4 manifolds running wide open with no pipes. The flames and stuff are a bonus.

Similar story... One day driving to tech school after work, I hit a bump and one of the hangers break off of the pipe leading to the muffler. It actually sounded kinda cool.
Jump to about 9 months later, I was driving home from work and that side of the exhaust drops and hits the ground. I get out of the car, crawl underneath on the side of a one-lane road (the driver's side, mind you) with my work clothes on, and unbolt the hanger that was still good. I threw the muffler in the trunk and drove home, loud as a bus. It's still like that now. It's definitely some crop-picking banjo-plucking fun.
New exhaust in the works.

No need to hassel the guy just because his car has developed an exhaust leak. The pipes rust and wear with age.
As far as him considering the leak an "upgrade," I think he was just being facetious. Nothing to get worked up about.

It does sound cool...
Unfortunately I have a large crack in my exhaust right after the dual cat Y pipe. But, like he says, it does sound cool.
I'm shopping right now for a dual cat back system, and maybe some cats to go with it. Any suggestions?
P.S. before I get bashed for being a *******, RB drove my car and he didn't object....

Do you think I should stay dual cat, or just go for something easier? I really need the cat-back (obviously) but I can't put a single cat in unless I get headers like 2055's. So, if I want to go single, I have to do the entire exhaust in one shot. What do you think?

I think you'd want to do the whole thing, from the heads to the street, all at once, anyway. At least, if I was in your situation, that's what I'd do. Personally I highly question the value of putting the dual cats back; since the cats you can get nowadays are far better flowing than those were back then, it wouldn't surprise me if you could put a modern single exhaust that was 3" all the way back, and it would far outflow the factory dual cat system, for alot less money. They add little or nothing to the overall picture of a replacement exhaust, regardless of the improvement they made over the factory single setup, in their factory condition.
I think your ideal setup would be SLP headers, ceramic coated; 1-5/8" if you're going to keep the 305, or 1¾" if you're going to upgrade to a 350. A Catco or Car Sound cat. And any of the packaged cat-back systems.
Since you saw my car, I've had to put an exhaust on it; the only 3" one I could find to bolt up directly to mine (the HO 4-bolt flange that they only used for a couple of years), is the Hooker one. It's kind of loud for my taste. Umm, make that extremely loud. It fits great, but it's just louder than I really want. Yours, being newer, there's more available to fit it.

I have a similar story thought its not my car or even a 3rd gen,
one of my best friends had a 99 v6 camaro and spent tons of money on the exhuase trying to make it sound like a 8 so one night we were at the drag and right in front of a group of people his muffler breaks off and he drags it with sparks flying everywere for about 50 ft. mind you that was the best that car ever sounded.

Once again I have to agree.
With the big hole right after my cats, when I see a cop, I kill the RPM's and it gets a quite deep rumble. When I punch it, it sounds like a NASCAR stock car.
How bad could it be to run exhaust out the back with no muffler? Just straight out to a pair (or single) tail pipe, 3" all the way back?

Yes guys, I was not serious as it being a real upgrade. Take a joke once in awhile, I have more sense than that. It'll be fixed within a couple weeks, so all ya'll gettin on me about exhaust fumes and non-upgrades and how im apparently going to be an alien on star magazine can just back off.

I don't think running with out mufflers will hurt anything other than your ears. Have you ever done this? It is neat for a while, then it just gets old. Install a cutout.

thats what im runnin when i get the money doing my whole exhaust at once...dual 3 inch to 2 highflow cats straight pipe...just to the cats that will be only thing on my pipes and headers haha......

So a lot of the exhaust is still going through the mufflers and tailpipes. Mine is like a cutout after the cat, but just a partial cutout.
I like ths sound of it. I think that is all that matters.

I had a nice experience once with my true duals.
They were waaaayy to low. One day I went a way I normally didn't because of a car wreck. I went up a very small hill and my passenger side muffler hung up on a man hole cover. Ripped it off completely at the H pipe. Car was loud before but now it was really bad. Drive it for a couple days until I got my edelbrock headers and hooker catback in the mail.

OK. While under the car putting in the Aluminum drive shaft, it looks like my exhaust was smashed where the hole is. I really need a new cat back - at least.

After I installed my cam (and addressed a few other things) I broke in the cam with an open y-pipe. I was so excited about the swap that I decided to go for a short drive before putting the rest of the exhaust back on. It was cool for about 5 minutes, and only under heavy throttle. I got tired of it real fast, and so did everyone I drove by, and went straight home. At light throttle/slow speeds I was kind of embarassed - it sounded terrible.
