Burning Oil

My car burns oil when I rev my engine above 4k rpms, however I don't have any kind blue smoke coming from exhaust but I have lots of white smoke (I don't leak antifreeze) I can smell exhaust when I'm driving at high rpms. I have my car checked there weren't any leaks in the exhaust system. My mechanic said I need an engine rebuild to solve the problem however a friend said oil could leak somewhere in the exhaust manifold that could cause the smell and leak problem and I wouldn't need an engine rebuild. I have no leaks in my Intake manifold I had its gaskets changed recently.

My question is where in my engine it could possibly leak oil other than inside the engine? Is there a way to solve this problem without getting the engine rebuilt? Also my Engine is at 65000 miles although I'm not sure If it's the original mileage and I'm using 10W40 Shell oil in it could this oil be too thin for my engine and cause the oil burning too?

Thanks

1. If it doesn't smoke, how is it burning oil?

2. If you're smelling exhaust, where is it leaking?

3. That oil is not too thin. Ignore that drivel.

4. I'm betting 2 things: that the smog pump has been hacked off this car, and that the motor leaks oil out the front. Am I right?

My exhaust guy said smoke probably enters through the rear hatch to inside the car. I have no leaks in my exhaust system and he also said the smell I'm getting is not exhaust smell but burned oil smell. I check my oil level constantly and I found out that when I drive at high rpms I lose oil.

Where is the smog pump can you show me in a picture? It could have been removed by the previous owner because emissions doesn't mean much over here.

On your serpentine belt system (should have one, my 88 did) the smog pump will be on the pass. side below the A/C compressor. It should have some large air hoses and a plastic capped valve attached to it. On the newer belt lines you wont have to worry about the motor dumping oil out the bolt holes in the front as the accesory bracket is all one piece and the pump can just be unbolted.

At high RPM oil tends to build up in the heads. It gets pumped up there faster than it can drain back. If your valve cover gaskets are not up to it they may leak when the oil puddles. The oil will drip down on to the exhaust manifolds and give that oily burning / exhaust smell in the car. So check your engine- is it wet with oil down the sides below the valve covers?

P.S. I see you are from Turkey. You have an outstanding command of english. very impressive.
