305tpi-350tpi

My friend just got a 86 iroc with a 305 tpi but it smokes on start up and he has a 350 block laying around, can he take all the stuff off of the 305 and put on the 350 to put it in his car, there is no difference on the outside of the motor between the two, so i told him he could probably swap all the tpi stuff over to the 350 and drop it in.

Probably just valve stem change. $40.00 in parts, a few hours and you can change them out. While you have the valve springs off, spend a few buck and change them. Then your good to go.

thats what i thought but i didnt know if he would need bigger injectors or if he could use the same 305 heads on his 350 because thats what he wants to do to get more compression.

if you plan on doing any driving you will need to change the injectors and burn a new chip.

seems like it wont be too hard just unbolt and bolt back on with different injectors and chip, what about the cam.

does your friend know the origins of the 350? the cam has to be matched to the lifters. hydraulic to hydraulic, solid to solid, flat tappet to flat tappet, roller to roller.

its an old block like 70's, and he hasnt put it together yet so there arent any lifters or cam or anything in it yet, what would be the best cam for tpi 350

he will have to modify the intake slightly to get the intake to fit. the center 2 bolt holes are different i believe. a search should turn up some results on that.

as far as the cam, you will have to ask someone with more knowledge of cams than i have. i haven't done a lot of research on cams for non-roller type blocks.

Check out Comp Cams website.. they make cams specifically for EFI applications like yours.

As far as converting 305 -> 350, you'll need to change out the knock sensor as well. You can't use the one from the 305 because the bore size is different. Different bore = different calibration. Get one for a 350.
