fialed emissions again
ok so ive broke down and decided to ask you guys so please help ( my temp tags ran out 3 days ago) i did my emissions once and i was told taht i fialed every subject not taht bad but bad enough . i then did a bunch of stuff plugs wires cap rotor filters injectors and a couple of other things .. i drove for like 2 weeks and went back and fialed again ( even worse this time ) so i asked a mechanic and he says the sheet seems to say taht im not meeting full compression or that im not having a full ignition ( hence why i keep fialing)so i wanted to know what you think maybe i can adjust the rotor and that'll help the timing im foinf to replace the ignition coil this weekend and see .. i had another idea of right when im about to pull intot he DMV that i owuld pour like bottles of injector cleaner ( since there mostly alcahol ) and see if taht works since its supposed to burn clean so tell me what you guys think

AFAIK if you retard the timing a whole wack it reduces the hydrocarbons in the exhaust but itll be gutless as hell while driving it there.
Have you ever stuck a compression tester on it? Maybe you have a couple dead jugs.

Car: 83 firebucket
Engine: less then a geo
Transmission: 5speed crap box
try using enviromax, its supposed to reduce your emmisions by alot, and i think if it doesnt you get your money back.
its cheap and it ''should'' work, but i have not tried it because we dont have emmisions here.

Don't hack your car, and don't lighten your wallet on "additives".
Retarding the timing has nothing to do with hydrocarbons. It's possible that if it's WAY too far advanced, that retarding it will lower NOx; but it will have basically no effect whatsoever on HCs.
Figure out what's really wrong with it and fix it. You can go bankrupt with trying to half-*** your way around doing it right.
A new cat (less than $100 for these cars, and usually you can put it on yourself) will cure it almost every time, IF the car is running right in the first place.

It would be helpful to see the results of the test. What the readings were. If the CAT is old and never been replaced that is a good place to start. Also, I failed once because my air diverter valve wasn't working. It sends air to the CAT to help with emissions. Mine was stuck closed. Something else to think about. Also check your timing.
