Car wont idle

okay so after replacing the MAF and IAC valve the car wont stay at idle...i am getting ready to install some Ford 19# injectors cause my car was not burning up all the fuel and it was getting into the oil pan and spulling out raw from the exhaust...anyways now the car wont stay idling...i am assuming that it would be bad timing, distributor not set right but i am lost right now?? anyone had this similar problem....i had taken it to some mecs earlier in sept or oct but hell even them were lost....they were like "well how bout replacing the MAF since it is bad" apparantly it threw a code and then they were telling me that the one i took might be bad but there is no way of telling. they dont like to deal with used parts only new ones..... they probably just wanted to rip me off....well anyways can anyone help...since i bought the car back in Feb of this year i really have not used it cuz i started having some problems with it...help please...

Have you checked for stored codes/is the check engine light on?Let me back up is this the original motor to the car.It sounds to me like you have an ignition problem.A weak coil or a failing ignition module sending a false signal could cause a similar problem. When she does try to start does she backfire because of the cylinders loading up with fuel?Have you checked your plugs/wires/cap & rotor? Also your EGR system could be causing your problems.

I had a similar problem, only it wasn't a thirdgen, the car needed a new MAF sensor, (The car wouldn't idle it was running to lean, blowing a cloud of smoke through the exhaust) I found out it was the MAF when I hooked the car up to a scan tool, it told me it was running to lean, the oxygen sensors weren't working very good as well, so what I did was I stuck a towel with gasoline into the instake of the car, and it sped it, so I figured it wasnt the oxygen sensor. I got the MAF scoped out on a scan to, and the voltages weren't giving good reading when i acclerated the throttle, after I got a new one out in ($500) the F'ing car wouldn't idle.....Kinda like what yours is doing, I found out from the dealer I had to teach it how to idle, there were a few simple instructions, and WAH-LA!.....Not sure if that helped, just wanted to give you a few ideas.

well i replaced the MAF sensor and now it isnt running to rich but it isnt idling so thats what i was figuring that it might be some ignition so i have some new wires and the plugs are new so now all i need to do is check to see if the distributor is good and how my timing is...also yes "When she does try to start does she backfire because of the cylinders loading up with fuel?" it does that.....so i really need to check that ignition to see if it is good and check those codes again for more problems....thanx so far guys for the help....

I had a feeling about her backfiring.I had a '89 2.5 Grand Am that was doing the same.Turning over but not starting, loading up on fuel the back firing.Turned out one coil pack was bad.But i found this only after one to many backfires blew the muffler case apart. On your cap and rotor,if they've been on there for awhile don't try cleaning them just replace them.Just added insurance.
