no spark

On wire number 3 I have no spark. New cap, rotor, wires, plugs, pick-up coil, and module. What else could it be, I have no codes. Used timing light, it work well on every wire except cylinder number 3, have nothing, then once in a while I get a flash, what else should I look at, was thinking about ECM or the EST.

check your firing order, or are you not getting any spark at all? you could try putting an old wire in its place.

So let me get this right here...

Is their no spark or is it that the #3 cyl is not firing?

If you replaced all that and their is still no spark on just the #3 wire, burn your car to the ground...

If on the other hand its that the #3 cyl is not firing it could be from a few other things.

It is possible to get no spark on one cylinder and get spark on the rest. has to do with the pickup in the bottom of the distibutor. that thing can cause all kinds of funky things if it goes. On mine it just so happens that instead of no spark i get spark all over the place with a new cap/rotor/ coil/ wires/ icm (only thing left is the distributor it's self.). If it is the factory original one.. I would probably say buy a new one Disty if everything else checks out right.. they really are not that expensive (My MSD Street Fire Disty only ran my $157 and it is complete and ready to drop in, and a little later i will get the 6AL box and plug it to it)

Switch the #3 wire with another (put the wire from a similar length, like #4, in the #3 position, and the #3 wire in the other position). If the problem is still there, it's the distributor not firing #3 - could be the distributor, could be the cap. If the problem follows the wire, something isn't right with the wire.

you know, when the rotor gets to #3, it could be arching off to another spot in the cap<----is where id look.

just wondering. but do you mean the coil.. or the actual pickup (because the actual pickup is the star shaped thing on the bottom of the top of the distributor. you actually have to take the think almost completely apart to replace that thing. The actual Coil is the thing that sits in the cap.. just wondering.

but yea.. that is a good idea on switching plug wires with another.. or jsut get one of the old ones you knew worked and swap it with the #3 new one.

i dunno either.. just wanted to clarify because it looked like he replaced everything on the top side. the only thing he left out was the coil in the cap.

"Pick-up coil" is the part in the distributor.

If he's talking about the '87, the coil isn't in the distributor cap.

The coil wouldn't not fire every eighth time it was commanded. It ain't the coil. Neither would the ECM or EST.

Also, we don't know if this condition existed before or only after the listed parts were replaced.

The pick up coil was replaced, I replaced the coil also, everything for the spark distribution has been changed. I switched the # 1 and # 3 wires to check the wire, but still no spark on the # 3 at the cap. It had a miss when I bought the car. Thats why I put everything new in the car. Today I got a ECM and ESC from a bone yard, no change there, going to buy another cap tomorrow and hope that that fixes it. The distributor is basically new since I replaced the pick-up and module, I have another one that I can at least try to see it that fixes it if the cap doesn't. Besides that I'm lost
