weirdest leak ever!
i got the craziest fluid leak......Theres oily moisture in my left Wheel well, over my left pitman arm, over the fat part (bottom) of the steering shaft. and theres also a little residue my my oil pan.* but no signs of a major leak there.....
by the time this stuff hits the ground i can't tell if its power steering fluid or regular oil. this started happening when after my cars temp pegged the red-lines for about a good 14 miles (i didnt notice i was in the red)- i might of put my brand new motor in the dog house.
Very slow leak but there is NO constant drip. BUT it Leaves BIG puddles....ususally on the drivers side of the engine bay.
answers??

Re: weirdest leak ever!
All I can say it take some carb cleaner or brakeleen and clean up real good on that side, or go through a couple of underbody washes, and have someone run the car rev it, and what not and see if you find a leak, or get the car on a lift and have someone be insde it and run it in the air and rev in and let it idle and sit not running and see if you can find a leak.
the only areas on that side that can leak oil, will be the bottom seal on the timing cover, but you never know. not saying its that but it pretty good chance it is.
had a similar problem but a fuel pump cover on the other side had a pinhole in it, and when you rvved it a fine mist of oil would come out, first time it happend i was racing some dirty old t-bird with the 5.0.
nothing like a trail of smoke after you win a race

With clean hands, wipe your finger in the mystery fluid, then wipe your finger on a clean white sheet of paper, napkin, kleenex etc. Then hold it up to the light if need be.
Oil will be gold, brown, or black. Power steering fluid = ATF = reddish.
I'm guessing it's power steering fluid, leaking from the back of the pump area, probably the return line.

Power steering is not necessarily red like ATF. All the power steering fluid I've ever seen has been clear like brake fluid.

Really? I've only ever seen it reddish. Well, easy way to check, pull your powersteering dipstick and check that fluid on the papertowel first, then see if the mystery fluid on the car matches it.
