Re: BLZ engine code?

Not that we're some kind of "eBay police" here, with a mission to "set straight" all the garbled or mangled or just plain bogus stuff that people post over there, but...

That looks like yerbasic B4C optioned car. It has the B2L package, which is the total package that installed the L98 motor along with all of its supporting goodies that aren't, strictly speaking, "part of" the motor. Whoever wrote that up probably just munged B2L into BLZ.

Kind of cool nonetheless... especially since it still has the state trooper paint job and all those ancient radios and stuff in it... I haven't seen some of those models of electronics for YEARS. Still, 170,000 miles is ALOT LOT LOT of miles, especially when they're police miles. Somebody must have a SERIOUS fetish to spend $18,000 on a car that's THAT worn out already.

Re: BLZ engine code?

Yeah I bet you are right about the B2L police package and the BLZ is just a missprint or something.

I was just realy curious thinking maybe BLZ was something special and maybe even a few civilian cars might have got the package like a LTZ Caprice or something.

Cool factor is there with that car forsure but it's not even close to being worth 18 G's IMO...some collector might nab it up though (Reggie Jackson)...LOL!

It is a COPO car though does anyone know of any COPO 3rd gens that you just could not get from a dealer like a L98 with a manual or some other odd combo? Maybe a ZR1 32V V8 with a 6 speed in a GTA or did the ultra cool copo options die in the late 60's early 70's?

Re: BLZ engine code?

No... the COPO (Central Office Production Order) system was discontinued in about 1970 or 71, when they figured out that they weren't making any money on it, because FAR too few people were willing to pay what the price to specially build cars that had OUTRAGEOUS warranty costs. Besides, emissions and EPA fuel mileage estimate certification costs for every possible drive train combo, would have been prohibitive. Basically it was a business model that never did work very well, and that was incapable of surviving into modern times.

Re: BLZ engine code?

There are no thirdgens that got "special" engines. About the most special would be the '89 Turbo Trans Am with the Buick V6 turbo engine, and the 91-92 Firehawks done by SLP. The 1LE road racing package (better brakes and suspension) might be considered special, but the engines were identical to regular thirdgen stuff of the same year. The 91-92 B4C police package is a Z28 suspension and TPI engine in an RS body.

With two bids canceled to boot!

Wonder if the cop going for his sidearm comes with it - maybe then it'd be worth $18k. . .
