Re: ESC What and Where is it?

It adjusts the timing electronically. Simple explanation would be that it is a replacement for mechanical and vacuum advance.

In the distributor. Remove the cap. It has three connectors on it. Two on the outside (Coil trigger, and connection to computer) and one on the inside (to pickup coil). It is mounted to the base with two screws.

Re: ESC What and Where is it?

Does the ESC directly adjust the timing? Or does it just feed a knock count to the ECM and let the ECM change the timing?

Re: ESC What and Where is it?

The one in the distributor is the ignition module- it reads the mag pickup and also charges and fires the coil when told to do so. The ESC is different and outside the distributor. Don't remember where on a V6 but probably on the firewall or near the rear of the engine. It's tied in with the ECM, the knock sensor and the ignition module. Exactly which one does what and how I'll leave to people smarter than myself with the computer control systems on these cars to explain.

Re: ESC What and Where is it?

It is The (Electronic Spark Control)Moduale, The esc takes its readings directly from the knock sensor and transfers the signle to the ecm and the ecm either retards or advances the timing, to control engine knock! and on our cars they are located at right portion of the firewall just to the right of the brake power booster, it will be mounted on a bracket with a bunch of other relays!
hope this helps!
