Power steering pump needs bleeding?

Is it possible to bleed the pump.. i dont think i have ever heard of doin that. If so what is the easiest method? My car sat for six years and i finally finished my engine build. Replaced the old 3 belt setup with a serp so now I have air in the pump.. any ideas?

Re: Power steering pump needs bleeding?

turn the steering wheel back and forth 10 time and that should get all the air out, with the cap off. if not u might need a new pump. also make sure the belt has good tension

Re: Power steering pump needs bleeding?

at work we lift the front wheels off the ground and turn the steering back and forth a couple of times to prime/bleed the pump then start it and turn it back and forth to get all the air out, top off the reservoir and drive it to check operation.
