TPS Testing

Does anyone know how to ohm out a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) off an 87 TPI Motor. It has 3 prongs. Which ones do you ohm out?

Re: TPS Testing

1) Disconnect harness connector from TPS
2) Measure between Pins A - C it should measure about 5 kOhm (there are variations on this value, but generally it is about 5K). This should be constant regardless of throttle position.
3) Measure between Pin A and B or between B and C - resistance value should range from minimum of 1 kOhm to maximum of 6 kOhm. Value change must be smooth without any dropouts and jumps!

Re: TPS Testing

check the bottom two, 0.45 volts closed opening progressivley to 5.0volts, it should be a nice smooth transition, you dont need to ohm it out if this is ok, obvioulsy do this with the key on, engine off
