what is the best epoxy filler to use on coolant port corrosion besides a new intake!
and can i cut out those clogging holes on the head gasket seems they are tiny compared to the actual port!!!

Re: intake fixing

If you just have a bit of pitting on the machined surface around the gasket opening, I would just put some silicone gasket sealant there when you reinstall the intake and not worry about it. Just clean it well so the silicone sealer can adhere well and don't worry about it. Brake cleaner works well for cleaning that stuff.

Re: intake fixing

You can use brake cleaner, like Air_Adam said, but if it doesn't come completely clean, use some scotch brite on it too. A combo of both will get it clean.

I wouldn't even worry about the scotch brite pads. Not a bad idea if you have them, but not really necessary. Clean it with brake cleaner, wipre it clean with a lint-free rag, and you'll be ok.

Re: intake fixing

i cleaned all the cavities with a wire wheel and an aluminum wire that u use to hold fencing up then cleaned it all with denatured alcohol (its meee thalated Nadine) and filled them with jb weld!
do u think that should werk
also i think i is gonna cut out all the tiny holes on head gasket !(when i removed the old head gaskets almost the holes were clogging up)
Doesn't the performance gaskets have maximum distance of the port size already stamp out?
I have pretty much always used a fidy fidy mix of dihydrogen monoxide to ethyl glycol ratio for coolant
until she started using coolant through the combustion chambers which progressed to a final failure to getting in the crankcase which was when i shut her done

Re: intake fixing

If you were burning coolant through the cylinders, you also may have bad head gaskets and not just bad intake gaskets. I would stay away from jb weld around the coolant passages on the intake. You are only asking for trouble with that stuff on a milled surface. Use RTV (silicone gasket sealer) like Air_Adam said. Like I said before, you may have bad head gaskets and would need to remove the heads.

Re: intake fixing

JB Weld might be ok just as a filler on some pitting, but it must be VERY clean for it to stay there, as it will be working under lots of different conditions (hot, cold, corrosion, lubes in coolant, etc). I think gasket sealant - silicone - may be the best bet. You can try the JB weld though, guys do use it to fix cracks on intakes, so it will probably work for that as well.

Re: intake fixing

I know I know lots of junk
I did a swell job on the jb weld only time will tell
Way ahead there on the heads got them busted off and cleaned
ready to reassemble tomorrow
clean the bottom she's fine
I used denatured to clean with
man is that wonderful stuff
seems they have been using it for over a hundred years to clean metal
really cleaned up the aluminum intake areas i glued
the jb weld will hold
the only thing is will it react to coolant
anyheys if it gets me till summer i will be happier
and yes i figured if i had a junk part then it also might have corrosion so might as well fix this one
i have a place where i could have the intake repair with aluminum
I will let yall know soon if she fires up without looking like a las vegas water fountain

n e body gonna say ney on cutting out the small holes in the head gasket like maybe to much coolant flow heads stay too cold
i dont like gasket material in port channel areas
especially rtv flopping in the breeze like a bothersome dingle berry it almost always spooges out

I wouldn't get into that on the machined face of an intake manifold. Its asking for trouble, and it would need remachined. He'd be better off buying a used intake.
