Looking for cam selection help....
Hi all,
I decided to get the beast on the road this year...gonna skip the fancy stuff and go right for carb.
I have a 2101 Edelbrock intake, 600 cfm Holley, and....187 swirl port heads (alright, stop laughing
). Budget being what it is, I have to work with them.
What should I be looking for in a cam to make this selection of parts drivable? Would like lots of torque (automatic tranny)....my friend recommended a Crane 272....another guy said Edelbrock 2102....I really have no idea.
Anyone with some knowledge to pass along?
Much thanx,
FH

I would say the edelbrock cam you listed would be best. Its really designed to work with that intake over the same range of RPMs. So that would probably be the best match for your combo. Ide stay away from crane anything not because there a bad cam but there going out of buisness so should a problem arrise warrenties will not be honored obviously.

In a perfect world, for non-nitrous, non-boost engines, we'd all have heads that had the exhaust flow 75% of the intake flow, and all run single pattern cams. Dual-pattern cams, with extra lift and duration on the exhaust side, are for heads with poor exhaust port flow. But what you have is poor intake-port flow. I'd suggest a COMP HighEnergy 252. It'll work fine with your stock computer, converter and gear. It gave me 19" of idle vacuum. My stock 700R-4 upshifted at 4200, and it was still pulling.
