160 or 180 Degree Thermostat
Does anyone have any opinions on which temperature thermostat runs better in a 305 LG4 with a Carb. There is no computer in the car. Thanks in advance.

Re: 160 or 180 Degree Thermostat
You are not going to really notice any difference in the performance of your car whether you use a 160 or 180 degree thermostat. The 160 degree thermostat can actually be bad for your engine because it is harder for your engine to stay at 160 degrees so therefore the thermostat will almost constantly stay open. When this happens you run the risk of cold/hot spots in your cooling system because the coolant will just be constantly flowing.

thanks, I have been running a 180, but in the middle of an intake swap and just wanted another opinion. So if I am not experiencing any overheating problems, no sense in a high flow thermostat either then?

Re: 160 or 180 Degree Thermostat
just keep with a normal 180 one, remember the job of the thermostat is not to cool the engine it has no control on that, but rather its job is to force the engine to get warm....
